Описание
Era - 2000s / 2010s - Boxing - Lightweight

One of Puerto Rico's finest fistic representatives, Miguel Cotto combined a brutal body punching attack with a warrior's heart to grasp gold in four weight divsions across the 2000s and 2010s.

Although Cotto was born in Providence, Rhode Island, his Puerto Rican parents took him back to their homeland early on, raising him in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Cotto's family were prolific boxers, and brought Miguel into the sport, competing in multiple tournaments, culminating in the 2000 Olympics.

Shortly after, Miguel Cotto turned professional and by 2004, won the Junior Welterweight title, defending it multiple times in the following years. By 2006, he moved up to Welterweight, defeating Carlos Quintana for the title and defended successfully against Zab Judah and Shane Mosely. Omminous clouds loomed in the distance, however, in the shape of the brutal Antonio Margarito.

Margarito and Cotto met in 2008 in a fight that would hand Cotto his first professional defeat, with Margarito's punches doing horrendous damage to the previously solid Cotto, resulting in his corner throwing in the towel to call off the fight. Margarito almost seemed to punch with inhuman ability for a Welterweight, and a potential explanation would be found later on. Early in 2009, Margarito faced Shane Mosely, and before the fight, Mosely's corner, Naz Richardson noted an issue with Margarito's hand wraps, with a following investigation discovering that cast plaster was inserted into his hands, a potential explanation for the damage he inflicted on Cotto.

Cotto and Margarito would meet again in 2011, and this time, Cotto had the upper hand, blasting his opponent with heavy punches to the right eye, eventually forcing a 10th round stoppage and reitring his foe.

Cotto would also fight, and lose to the top of the top of the time, including Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Canelo Alvarez, with the latter fight seen as a controvercial loss, many believing that Cotto had defeated the Mexican star.
