Description
Purpose
A small (large grid), vanilla ship for short engagements or patrolling (automated using SAMv2). The only heavy armour is on the bow; this ship is built for speed, and if the rocket launchers or two front turrets are damaged, there is a projector and welder system for repairs.

"Strike Corvette" is because I couldn't decide if the series was small enough to still be a strike fighter or large enough to be considered a corvette.

Comes in 3 other thrust variants:

Hydrogen: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1753526590
The Mako-H is by far the most versatile; operating in any envionment, and also the fastest to accelerate (0-100m/s in about 4.5s), but keep an eye on the capacity of the 2 hydrogen tanks.

Ion: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1753528860
The Mako-I has very good forward thrust, but not so much in the other directions (small ion thrusters don't provide much force), perhaps use this one more for automated patrols.

Ion assisted Gravity Drive: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1753529322
The Mako-IG has better acceleration than the Ion only variant, thanks to its gravity drive (and Gabriella's excellent Gravity Engine III script), however, due to the shape of the grav-drive itself the ship will drift slightly during acceleration.

Ok, thanks for the info!

No, the weapons just have target AI that actually works, and you can manually control all your guns at once. You can set the AI to focus on certain subsystems (propulsion, weapons, etc), and decoys will only attract fire from automatic guns that are not set to focus.

This is mostly just a factor in PvP. NPC ships usually have all their weapons without a set focus, and so decoys work pretty well there.

Interesting, I haven't messed with Weapon Core much, it sounds like decoys are made obsolete by it somehow?
Kaito Apr 23, 2021 @ 7:07am
Probably not for me because WC and MES, but for Vanilla that would make this ship a LOT more durable. Decoys should be on every vessel that expects to see literally any combat at all, at least in Vanilla.

I converted the bow to heavy armor and put 2 decoys along the keel, surrounded by heavy armor islands. I'd love to put welders behind it, but the internal space doesn't really allow it without major restructuring. They are mostly for when I get flanked.

My latest iteration includes 3x M-8 Destroyer guided missile launchers at the stem, replacing the rocket launchers, but I'm not sure they fit in with a fast hit-and-run vessel. They are more of a long range weapon. I think I might replace them with shorter range high-power fixed railguns, given the armored bow.

I should be able to fly straight at an enemy, let the heavy bow take the hits, and then blow them to pieces with the railguns, letting the PDC take care of whatever is left.

I actually have a MK2 of this sitting in my blueprints folder that replaces the fixed missile launcher with a welder + decoys covered in heavy armour, Do you think that would be worth uploading?
Kaito Apr 22, 2021 @ 3:19pm
I tried a few runs with this against MES bases and ships with some modded weaponry. Nothing out of the ordinary, just some high ROF PDC. I ended up making some adjustments, by placing some strategic heavy armor, more forward facing cameras (don't you just hate it when it gets blown up immediately), and a few decoys.

I was able to take down a heavily armed NPC ship 3x the size of this one, but I had to throw the Mako in the grinder afterwards. I might do a few more iterations on the design.

For this one, basically just a paint job and replacing the SAM script with Whip's Turret Radar.

Hello again Alterae, all sounds good to me! :steamhappy:

I would also be interested in seeing what kind of retrofitting you are doing? Just out of curiosity.
Alterae May 30, 2019 @ 4:06pm
So, I'm going to actually make a retrofit of this ship for a faction I'm in (I haven't gotten around to the other one.) In the event that i upload it to the workshop, I'll make sure to give you credit for all the things.
Spite  [author] May 27, 2019 @ 10:24am
I was too actually, but its just so ridiculously lightweight.

I tried to make it as small and simple as possible, big ships just take forever to design :steamfacepalm:

Anyway, I hope it serves you well!
