Spy Promotion Tree

Description
(Deutsch) There is a German translation of this mod.

Spies now have promotion tree instead of picking from random promotions. Spies can now have 8 levels (7 promotions) instead of 4 and available earlier. Non-state Actors card effect is updated. Please see details below.

  • Tier 1:
    • Counter Intelligence: Seduction + Surveillance.
    • Master Mischief: Demolitions + Satchel Charges.
  • Tier 2:
    • Deep Network (requires Counter Intelligence): Quarter Master + Polygraph.
    • Master Thief (requires Master Mischief): Con Artist + Cat Burglar.
  • Tier 3:
    • Dirty Politics (requires Spy Master or Master Thief): Smear Campaign + Covert Action + Guerilla Leader.
  • Tier 4:
    • Man in Suit (requires Dirty Politics): Linguist + Technologist + Rocket Scientist.
    • Master Assassin (requires Dirty Politics): License to Kill + Disguise + Ace Driver.

Civic changes

Now because Spies need a lot more level, they are available earlier, you gain 1 more Spy slot at Feudalism (and Catherine gain one at Mathematics but NOT at Castle).
Remember that there are more Spies but also they have more levels so Polygraph and Surveillance are important.

NEW UPDATE! The policy card Non-state Actors (select any promotion for Spies) is updated to now grant 2 promotions on new Spies (3 for Catherine for her Flying Squadron ability). The card effect applies to all Spies creating while it is active, so do not worry about taking it out if you are not creating more Spies.

Compatibility & Feedback
This mod works well with my other mod Random Promotions (all other units still get random promotions while Spies get a promotion tree).

Please try this one out and give me feedback, I may need better balancing about the promotions.

Spies still take a LOT of turns to MAYBE get a promotion, and "master assassin" contains the promotions I would always pick first. This would force spy gameplay into being unnecessarily drawn out, even with them added earlier

Making the promotions more free-form would be awesome

Foreign spies stop spying on me. No mission through etire 250 turns. This mode was used with "REAL STRATEGY mode" so I don´t know which one is to blame.

Is it just me or, does anyone feels that with this mod, spies, even those with very high tiers, get quiet easy to be killed in action? I lost a 4-or-5-tiered spy during eliminate envoy mission in city state, which of course acted in 90% possibility of success but still get killed. It was just so astonishing and was quiet a blow to my covert network. Good mod though, thanks for the work :)

A spy's level Recruit, Agent, Secret Agent, Master Spy affects diplomatic visibility for Listening Post Mission. Is a Master Spy still considered a level 4 spy?
