In an era where top Heavyweight boxers have a habit of avoiding the biggest fights, Andy Ruiz Jr. has been more than happy to step in and fight top names. His heavy frame and professed love of Snickers candy bars mask some of the fastest hands in the division and solid counter punching ability.

Born in Imperial Valley, California and a solid amateur, Ruiz turned pro in 2009, defeating a long line of mid tier opponents. By 2016, he managed to work his way into a fight for Tyson Fury's vacated Heavyweight belt against fellow undefeated fighter, New Zealand's Joseph Parker. Ruiz pressed the action, but lost a close, disputed decision to Parker.

By 2019, after defeating Alexander Dimitrenko, Ruiz found the opportunity of his career when Jarrell Miller failed multiple drug tests in the lead in to a title bout against Anthony Joshua. While a number of other fighters including Luis Ortiz, Dillian Whyte and Oleksandr Usyk failed to step up, Ruiz stepped in to travel to Madison Square Garden to take on the then-undefeated Joshua. His courage paid major dividends, as Ruiz shocked the world by dropping Joshua multiple times and surviving the British boxer's power punches to win the title in a 7th round TKO.
