Goose Green, Falklands

Description
The Battle of Goose Green (28–29 May 1982) was an engagement between British and Argentine forces during the Falklands War. It lays about 13 miles (21 km) south of the site where the major British amphibious landings took place in San Carlos Water (Operation Sutton) on the night of the 21st to the 22nd May 1982.

Goose Green and Darwin are on a narrow isthmus connecting Lafonia on the south to Wickham Heights, which together form the large eastern island of the Falkland Islands. The terrain is rolling and treeless and is covered with grass outcrops, areas of thick gorse and peat bogs making effective camouflage and concealment extremely difficult. From May to August, the southern hemisphere winter, the ground is sodden and frequently covered with brackish water, causing movement to be slow and exhausting, especially at night. The isthmus has two settlements, both on the eastern coastal edge with Darwin settlement to the north and Goose Green to the south. The islands have a cold, damp climate and light, drizzly rains occur two out of every three days with continuous winds. Periods of rain, snow, fog, and sun change rapidly, and sunshine is extremely limited, leaving few opportunities for troops to warm up and dry out

This is a quick private terrain that I made for a campaign in the Falklands for use inside the unit and now releasing since it's not being used.It was made within a week with very quick object placement and heightmap. It was made for infantry combat and foot patrols with micro terrain, trenches and defensive areas, especially around Darwin Hill.

The terrain feels a lot like the Falklands which is the most important part, long rolling hills, limestone and rocks everywhere and all defensive positions lay inbetween craggy ridge lines with some trenches for cover. I will leave it up to mission makers on how they want to design the dug outs.

- 2.5 cell size.
- Micro-terrain and defensive positions.
- 5x5km in size.
- created specifically for infantry combat.
- relatively accurate to the real life location.
- terrainSynth is turned on (this is yet to be decided).

There is a list of known issues that I will fix in updates and I will try to get around to them as quick as possible but all my terrain effort goes to other projects. I have a bunch of terrains from deployments of the British army during the 1980's and onwards. I will release them one after the other when they are not needed anymore, keep an eye out if you are interested in those time periods.

Remember to play with overcast, rain or even snow if you want to mix it up. Turn the wind speed up for the best experience.

Impressive it has the making a really good map. Not surprisingly it needs a lot of work particularly given that you managed to do this is in a week. The land and sea, grass textures, sea colour and some lighting issues etc are the main problems from what I can see.

We stocked our ships full of British beer and bullets
We mobilised the navy and we called up thе marines
We sailed two weeks 'til wе reached the Falkland Islands
So we could teach a lesson to those bloody Argentines.

The satellite images of the entire island have been updated with more detail in Google Maps, perhaps you would like to update the textures of the mod :D

Thank you. I might create a new terrain when I have some time.

Incredible map, I've spent chunks of the past year getting the best out of it and now have a thoroughly tweaked version of my effort to give a sense of just a part of the battle: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2222682588&searchtext=goose+green

I'd potentially be interested in collaborating on future Falklands maps, or providing bespoke content for them, there is some really excellent source material available on 3 Para's battle for Mt Longdon, including very detailed photos of the terrain and approaches .. . DM me if interested.

great work!
