Description
Era - 1930s / 1940s - Boxing - Heavyweight

The younger, and larger brother of Max Baer packed a huge punch in his own right. Jacob Henry "Buddy" Baer stood close to 6'7 and decided to go into boxing due to his brother's success. He won most of his early fights against lesser opponents, scoring nine first round knockouts in thirteen bouts. Although Baer would lose to a number of lesser foes, he also defeated the sizable Abe Simon and hard hitting Tony Galento.

Baer's most famous challenges came against the Brown Bomber, Joe Louis. In 1941, Baer fought for Louis's Heavyweight title. At the time, Louis was on what was dubiously titled the "Bum of the Month" run, defeating a long list of underdogs. Baer did not hold back in his approach, crowding the champ, and even sending him through the ropes with a hard left hook. However, Louis was not finished, and instead rallied back to crush Baer with a crushing right hand that sent him spiraling to the canvas. This ended the fight, as Baer could not rise up from his corner for the seventh round. The two would meet again, but this time, Louis was focused in, and demolished Baer with ease.
