No More Heroes - Slow Arrival

Description
This is a gameplay variant mod for another mod called No More Heroes. In the No More Heroes mod, you are given 1 of every class at the start of your campaign and nothing more. No new recruits will spawn and you must attempt to beat the final boss with the small roster that you have. Links to the main mod and mod variants below if you want to learn more.

"You arrive at the hamlet and are greeted by a smaller party than expected...
Perhaps the others are still on their way."

Gameplay variant for the 'No More Heroes' mod.

Instead of giving you one of every hero, you begin the campaign with six:
Crusader, Highwayman, Vestal, Plague Doctor, Occultist, and Hellion.

The other nine heroes will arrive at random via town events.
______________________________________________________

Works with both 'No More Heroes - Reborn' and 'No More Heroes - Vanilla Ruleset'

Place this ABOVE the 'No More Heroes' mod.

Works with DLC heroes, provided you install the mod patches.
However, the DLC heroes will appear immediately after a quest instead of at random.

"Help! New heroes aren't spawning!"
  • Do you have other Town Event mods installed? If yes, place this above those.
  • Did you install the 'No More Heroes - Reborn' or 'No More Heroes - Vanilla Ruleset' mod? Those are required for this mod to work. Links below.
  • Is your mod load order correct? 'Slow Arrival' should be ABOVE 'No More Heroes - Reborn' or 'No More Heroes - Vanilla Ruleset' like in the first preview pic.
  • In the in-game gameplay options, do you have Town Events set to 'OFF'? If you do, the Town Events that spawn Heroes will not trigger. Set it to 'NORMAL' or 'PLENTIFUL'
  • Are you taking a lot of quests the guarantee certain Town Events, like the Gather 3 Medicine quest in the weald? Try avoiding those kinds of missions for a while because they prevent you from getting a chance at a Hero Town Event.

Modder's Note:
If you don't mind, can you tell me at what Week did your final hero arrive?
I'm trying to figure out if I need to tweak the spawn rate in case it's too high or too low.
If you reach Week 50 and still don't have all the heroes, tell me how many have spawned out of 9.
Just leave a comment below. Something like this:

I'm on Week 8, and I accidentally had this mod disabled when I returned to the hamlet. (I encountered a situation on my last expedition that made my game crash, and disabled all my mods in order to resolve it.) So did I ruin the progression that this mod is supposed to give? Now that I've reenabled it, will the events that are supposed to randomly bring more heroes start occurring again?

Even after I reenabled it, there are still two heroes waiting in the stage coach. If I don't recruit them, will your mod recognize and remember that they've appeared in that play-through, and as a result not spawn the town events that would offer them?

Ok. Anyway, it is a great mod. I am really enjoy using it.

This does not apply to mod-added heroes.
You can still add mod-added heroes to your game, but there is no easy way to make them randomly spawn.

Does this 'slow arrival' applies to mod-added heroes? or do I have to add them to the starting roster like the Vanilla version of No more heroes.

Thanks for your reply! After doing some testing it seems that i really had bad luck. I started a new run with crimson court deactivated and everything was fine. I still feel the spawnrate could be a little bit higher (I got 6 new heroes by week 17), but that might just be another personal rng experience. If the math says that the roster should on average be complete by round ~40, that sounds fine to me.

@Mondkind
I commend you for trying to do a run with Crimson Court activated. That said, I never did that myself so I wasn't aware that it can stop you from getting new heroes.
My advice would be to delay activating Crimson Court until you have maybe 10-12 heroes in your roster. I wouldn't want to mess with the Crimson Court files because balancing that alongside the random spawns is another nightmare on its own and isn't the focus of this mod.
As for the low spawn rates, it's possible that you were just unlucky. In one playthrough, I was only missing 1 out of 18 heroes around Week 40. However, I did avoid almost all quests that resulted in a guaranteed Town Event.
Still, that's the second report that says it feels too low. I'm considering bumping up the chance to spawn

I found the spawn rates to be quite too low, on week 25 i had 2 new heroes arrived before i had to begin a new game. I also think that the crimson court event blocks all other events from happening, so that you are forced to do the first mission with the few heroes you have. I'm on week 15 now and had the crimson court event for the last ~10 weeks.

I wonder if with random spawning u can actually patch to use all the modded heroes
Amelio Apr 1, 2019 @ 3:35pm
Lucci can u do a version where u spawn with all the heroes but there are occasionally random heroes (with random levels) aproaching the town, at a rate equal to half of normal slow arrival plus another version of slow arrival but heroes continue to arrive at random regardless of the heroes you have (note: i like to play the vanilla ruleset)
