Allows the use of variations for custom vehicle assets, like truck trailers and cargo wagons. Think empty vs. loaded log trucks. This mod is required for end users (and asset creators) that want to use custom assets using this feature.

Submesh variation masks are a way to use different submeshes for different cargo loads, be it full or empty. You can see this in action in game on the cargo train since the Industries patch. Unfortunately the game doesn't support custom assets that use these masks: they simply don't get saved or loaded, leading to all submeshes appearing at once.

For end users
If an asset lists this as a requirement, just sub to this and the asset will work.

For asset creators
Assets saved with Extended Asset Editor will automatically be set up correctly for use with this mod as of version 0.4.10, so no need to run scripts to configure them for use with this mod. Just edit the submeshes' variation masks, save them (with that mod's save button!) and they will work with this mod!
NOTE: You CAN NOT use things like the additive shader on any submesh that has a non-zero variation mask! If the mask is 0 you're fine though.

can someone do a YouTube tutorial on how to make custom trains with custom cars I'm stamped yes I read the tutorials

@aubergine18 Those use another trick I believe, it doesn't actually depend on the actual amount of cargo, just on if the truck is delivering goods somewhere or if it is going back to its 'home' factory. Similar end result, different methods.

@TheArkerportian: There are already several truck assets that use submeshes for difference between full and empty so not sure this mod would be needed for trucks.

Small tip: since the main mesh doesn't seem to disappear if a submesh is shown you can get away with only having the cargo in a submesh when doing coal hoppers, container wagons and other stuff like that.

I have no idea, but you could try! The mod doesn't care if a vehicle is a 'trailer' or not, but I don't know if the game itself actually uses the variations available on non-trailer vehicles.
