Introduction
This guide will give you information about how to download and review cases as an investigator for the Overwatch. It will also provide you with some additional tips to aid in your research.

If you're not part of the Overwatch you can still help out by reporting problematic players using the in-game report tools. For more information on how to use those you can read my other guide by clicking the button below.

Becoming an Investigator
Overwatch investigators are selected by Valve based on their competitive rank, account age, hours played and skill group. There is no application process to join the Overwatch, however you can increase your chances of being selected by playing a lot of competitive match making games.

If you were selected you'll see an Overwatch box appear at the top left on the Main Menu of Global Offensive.

Downloading the Evidence
If the Overwatch box is present on the Main Menu it means you have a pending case to review. From this box click on the Download Evidence button to begin downloading the replay.

You'll be able to see a progress bar which will indicate how long is left on the download.

When it's done downloading the button will turn green and it will now say Review Evidence.

Once you click Review Evidence you'll begin loading the replay of the match that the player was reported in. Depending on the length of the rounds this can take about ten minutes, sometimes more and sometimes less.

You'll receive more cases to review based on your CS:GO activity and your Overwatch score.

Your Overwatch score is determined by how accurate your verdict is compared to other investigators. The system also contains several test cases from professional games and previously resolved cases, these are used to judge the investigator on their ability to identify known cheaters and legitimate skill.
Reviewing the Evidence
The replay you downloaded will feature eight randomly selected rounds from the reported player's view. The names and voice/text communication of the players in the game have been removed and the reported player is referred to as "The Suspect".

Below is an example of an Overwatch replay provided through the system.

While reviewing the evidence you have several tools available to you to aid in your research.

  • X-Ray

Clicking the X button on your keyboard will toggle x-ray vision, this will allow you to see other players through walls. This tool is useful to determine if the suspects actions differ based on the enemy's movements. You can also use this tool to see if the suspect's vision appears obstructed by certain elements such as Flashbangs and Smoke Grenades.

  • Overview

Clicking the Control button on your keyboard will toggle the overview map. This will display the whereabouts of every player in the game. This information can be useful to determine if the suspect's position is consistently accurate compared to the rest of the enemy team.

  • Demo Playback

Holding down Shift on your keyboard and clicking F2 will pull up the Demo Playback Tools. From this screen you're able to Pause and Resume the replay by clicking the Pause button. You're also able to adjust the timescale by using the bar to the right of the time to fast forward or slow down the replay.

The Demo Playback tool in CS:GO is not specifically designed to be used with the overwatch system. Keep in mind that some features on this screen will not function as intended. You can find more information about the Demo Playback tool here.

While reviewing the evidence use the tools provided to spot any possible signs that the suspect is cheating or being disruptive. Is he tracing somebody through a wall? Perhaps their crosshair behavior seems strange? Are they running faster than normal? These are some of the questions you should ask yourself while reviewing the evidence. As an experienced CS:GO player you need to determine if the play style of the suspect seems possible without some sort of external aid.

It's important to make the correct judgement call. Not only does it increase your Overwatch score, but it helps make the CS:GO community a better place. The outcome of your decision will have a major impact on the suspect's account so being accurate is crucial.
The Verdict
Once the replay is done playing you'll be returned to the Main Menu of Global Offensive. From here you'll be able to decide on your verdict. If you feel that you need to watch the evidence again you can click on Postpone Judgement to view it again later.

You have multiple options to choose from and the meaning for each selection is listed underneath the category header. Make your decision based solely on the evidence that was provided to you. You must check a box underneath each category to submit the verdict.

Once you've made your selections click on the Submit Verdict button. The information you provided will be sent to Valve and the outcome of the suspect will be determined based on the other investigators reviewing the case.
