Very resourceful
(*) I extended that solution a bit and built a small 'panic room'.
At the (bottom)end of the tunnel: dig a little up (90°), from there a bit forward (direction of eggs) so it's just a fast jump-up-forward away to safety and mobs can't reach you (jump up) there while you can wait for them to disappear and/or fire at them. Still very fast as the Terrain-M. is ready only some seconds to dig that 'panic room'. I didn't need it so far (after 5 or 6 bases).
Maybe I'll stop doing this after 20 more bases when I realize that they never come down, but in permadeath I usually play 'saftey-first'.
