Audiophile; the first point in Spell Shield gives you 24% bonus spell resist. Every subsequent point gives 8%, so it's 3 times as effective on the first point as it is on the following levels.

This is why you want to level it once in the early game.

What doesn't need to be leveled early is the Blink; it should be maxxed when you have Battlefury but 2 points by level 3 is a complete waste most games. Also, your mana break is (generally speaking) not good to max out and you can keep it at 1 or 2 for a while. It is a very situational hero to skillbuild so points can be made for Mana Break, but a maxxed blink is rarely any good (if you're getting enough for a REALLY early BF, you should midas. It's usually best to just max after level 6).

Early Spell Shield point is good though, don't doubt it vs a lot of the gankers in the game :)
