#!TanksyTweak - Galaxies (2.0 Legacy Version)

Description
Supported Version: 2.0.*
A new version for 2.1.* is in the works, and I'm hoping to use the newer galaxy generation features.

Tanksy's Tweaks - Galaxies (2.0 Legacy Version)
This mod allows some finer tuning of the map generation process. The mod has been updated to 2.0.*, though the numbers may take some tweaking to get a good balance for star count and map size.

This mod adds:
  • 4 scaled additional star-counts for each vanilla galaxy size. (Internally named "Bare", "Sparse", "Clustered" and "Packed".)
  • Radius for Huge increased to 500, from 450 (The same as Large). (The soft-limit. Any higher and Stellaris will "Box" out the galaxy.)
  • Max Player/AI Empire counts based upon Star count, capping at 99.
  • Min Player/AI Empire counts set to 0.
  • Fallen Empire counts now reach the maximum player count, if you have mods that add that many. (As they're unique empires)
  • Attempts to make empires start a little less clustered. I originally implemented "No Clustered Starts" into this mod, but I had to drastically lower some of the minimum values to accommodate for the smaller possible sizes. The ideal distances are still quite high and they should hopefully spawn a good distance away from each other on Clustered mode.
  • Support for "Multiverse" style mods -- Adding a "Universal" size, which starts with 200 stars, and a Radius of 500, giving plenty of Radius for system expansion.
  • Spiral Arm enabled and slightly tightened for all galaxy sizes. Try it on Tiny!
  • Fuzz for 2-Armed Spiral galaxies lowered from 40 to 30, tightening the stars up a little to make them less scattered between arms.
  • 42 total galaxy variations.
  • Core is now 5% smaller on Spiral galaxies and 5% larger on Ring galaxies -- This makes the scaling uniform from Vanilla (Which ranged from 20-30%.)
  • 8% of the galaxy's stars can generate in the galaxy's core.
  • Distance between stars now has a minimum of 7, down from 10. This is to accommodate for the more dense galaxies.
  • Nebula count is now based on Star Count, except on the new "Nebula" galaxies.
  • Special galaxy sizes (Square and Nebula), making for some interesting game-play. Square works best on Ring Galaxies, but can be played on other types.
  • Hyperlane density can be reduced to 0x -- This is not what you think. It will connect every star to every possible neighbour star.
  • Wormhole/Gateway density can be upped to 20x -- This is to see how possible it is to make wormholes or gateways appear over every system.
This mod changes as few vanilla elements as possible:
  • Overwritten default galaxy sizes to adjust them for the new scaling formulae, and support for spiral arms.
  • Overwritten default galaxy types to adjust the core scaling, core star placement and empire placement distances.
  • Overwritten default "center.dds" graphics file with a much, much smaller file, removing the horribly bright glow from the center of the galaxy so that the systems are actually visible. (If this is a controversial change, I'll either revert or tweak it.)

Compatibility
Please be aware that other mods that also change the vanilla galaxy sizes will be overwritten by this mod. This is because I like my personal mods to be the over-ruling factor in the list, and Stellaris' mod order is determined by Reverse ASCII Alphabetical, which explains why I have the "#!" prefix.

If you have any mods that use these files and you do not want my mod to overwrite them, let me know! I'm happy to make compatibility patches.

Large galaxies with a lot of stars can and will degrade performance. Stellaris can handle a lot -- But even that has a limit.

I am also going to make a companion mod as a replacement for "Multiverse", for those that use it. This mod will function exactly the same, but wont add the multiple "Sparse" galaxy sizes to reduce menu clutter. Eventually my companion mod will also function a bit differently overall.

Notes
  • Internally, I have named the four count-variations "Bare", "Sparse", "Cluttered" and "Packed".
    • "Bare" spawns 33% of the default star count. So, 33% of 200 (For Tiny) is 66.
    • "Sparse" spawns 66% of the default count.
    • "Cluttered" spawns 133% of the default count.
    • "Packed" spawns 166% of the default count.
  • The galaxies are prioritized from Mini, Bare - Huge, Packed, then the special galaxies Square, Universe and Nebula follow after.
  • The default option for the number of Advanced AI Starts is 0. This is the most commonly chosen option for me and my group of friends. This doesn't mean that there are none, as it is limited by the max number of empires total.
  • Marauding Empires, which I cannot test the effects of due to not owning Apocalypse, have the same rules applied as Fallen Empires.
  • The max empire count is capped at 99 by me, because visually the three-digit numbers word-wrap over the UI onto an invisible next line. It looks garbage, and who really plays with over 100 empires?
  • The mod now includes a darker, tiny core graphic file. This is because the brightness of the core makes capturing systems in the core really uncomfortable.

Enjoy.

Any chance for update?)

No, sorry.

I've been pre-occupied with life stuff.

For the most part, calculating the potential max player count relative to the Home Cluster star count, which in turn is going to be relative to the actual Star count, with at least a third being Outer Clusters (For the newly named "Enhanced" Galaxy Size. Vanilla will remain Vanilla, and there will also be a "Pockets" or something where home systems are much larger but outer systems will have very few stars and connections.. And any other ideas I come up with.)

So all that's left is UI work?

Update on Galaxies 2:

The UI work is almost finished, I just need to adjust the few pixel-off measurements, and positions, and of course the Galaxy Settings sliders.

Here's a "Dev Diary Of Sorts"?

I'm working on the Multiplayer and Singleplayer GUI screens in order to make viewing the new and longer galaxy size names easier, but as a result I'm going to have to adjust the entire UI so that it's neat.

Haven't had the chance to work on it, I was busy on other projects and had to present at an expo so I've not really had time to do any mod work.

How's work on the 2.1 version coming?

Good to hear. I look forward to it.

Soon, I've been playing around with various settings and making some cool scenarios with it.
