Summary - Q&A
As we know, the weapons we find in Dying Light scale to Survivor skill-tree both in terms of damage and variety. The damage caps out at Survivor rank 25 but many different weapons still remain locked behind Legend skill-tree levels.

This guide will focus on Normal Gold-tier melee weapons obtained from weapon (Bozak) dockets - The Bozak Horde DLC.

Below you may find answers to possible questions.

[Q] What are Gold-tier, 'Normal' melee weapons?

[A] 'Normal' Gold-tier refers to weapons that are usually seen in chests, police vans and vendors, but in Gold-tier rarity.

Details - https://dyinglight.fandom.com/wiki/Gold-tier_Weapons#Normal
[Q] How is obtaining Gold-tier weapons done and what is the easiest way?

[A] Opening weapon dockets. The guide focuses on Bozak Dockets which are earned by playing through Bozak Horde. Bozak Horde DLC comes with Dying Light - Enhanced Edition as well as the season pass.

Important note:
See Obtaining and the Dockets section for detailed information below.
[Q] Why Bozak dockets?

[A] Opening weapon dockets is the most reliable way of obtaining Gold-tier weapons and the Bozak docket is only type that is not finite. The only realistic way for the player to obtain weapon dockets themselves is through The Bozak Horde DLC. There's no other way of obtaining weapon dockets besides relying on developers to create events or give away docket codes.

However, any other preferred weapon docket may be used.
[Q] How is this going to work?

[A] The sections below explain what is potentially needed, how to create save aimed to reach specific level and below this information about obtaining weapons and dockets.

Below that you'll find sections: Survivor Skill-Tree Rank 1, Survivor Skill-Tree Rank 2, etc. These sections will contain two screenshots per weapon available at current rank or level, including statistical information at the bottom - damage, durability and handling. Some of the good looking weapons will have extra screenshots.

At the bottom section dedicated to save files can be found.
[Q] What will I need?

[A] If you are here for the entertainment, nothing. Jump straight to Survivor or Legend skill-tree sections.

If you want to know about how to obtain these weapons see Recommended & Obtaining and the Dockets sections below.
[Q] Is The Following expansion required?

[A] No.
[Q] I know a name of weapon which I am looking for, how do I find it quickly?

[A] On windows press Ctrl + F and search for the name. On mobile use 'Find in page' option.
[Q] The weapon which I search for is not here.

[A] Most likely this weapon is not tied to the Survivor or Legend skill-tree ranks. Therefore it's matter outside of the purpose of this guide. However, feel free to ask about it in comment section.

Fantasy weapons[dyinglight.fandom.com] are not available from weapon dockets. Unfortunately neither some of The Following weapons such as Hand Saws.
[Q] Why do the screenshots of Survivor skill-tree weapons look different than the Legend?

[A] The former was taken on 1280 x 1024 resolution monitor while the latter on 1920 x 1080 monitor.
[Q] I want to obtain weapon which is available at Survivor ranks that I have already passed, I don't want to restart the game and go through Prologue.

[A] This is not a problem. Skip Prologue using Main Menu > Play > Campaign > New Game > Advanced > New Game From Quest > Any quest. This will successfully skip Prologue, as well as create character with appropriately matched skill-tree ranks based on the chosen mission. Closer to the ending, higher the skill-tree ranks.

It is possible to skip up to 15 Survivor skill-tree ranks by starting the save using New Game From Quest option.

Important note:
See Advanced Starting - Instant 3-15 Survivor Ranks section below for detailed information.
[Q] I downloaded or made a new save, what about the dockets?

[A] Dockets are shared between saves, it's possible to immediately redeem dockets from Quartermaster on any save. This means that one can play Bozak Horde with high level save then switch to the lower level save and redeem.

Note: - The dockets are tied to default.pro file located in \239140\remote\out\profiles therefore you may redeem dockets using any save, even on newly created.
[Q] The weapon which I am looking for is available beyond Survivor skill-tree rank 15.

[A] This is not a problem either. It's possible to use Advanced starting method to immediately appear at Survivor rank 15 and then use the fastest leveling up method to reach intended rank or level.

Information on how to accomplish each step precisely can be found in these sections cut in two parts, Advanced Starting - Instant 3-15 Survivor Ranks and Beyond Survivor Rank 15+ which will cover fastest leveling up method, tricks and the chart of required DROP(s) to reach every Survivor rank between 15-25 including additional info.
[Q] I'm not getting the weapon I want despite it being included in this rank according to guide.

This limitation only applies to Survivor skill-tree.
Note: - For Legend skill-tree, simply keep on opening dockets. As long as you are in range of which weapon is available you will eventually get it.

[A] Ranks get assigned random list of available weapons which may differ between Quartermasters and dockets. The guide will include every single weapon obtainable at every rank. Still unable to obtain specific weapon after opening roughly 20 dockets? This is unlucky, try another type of weapon docket(s), restarting save, sleeping and other Quartermasters but the most reliable way to get around this is recreating save.

Example of how weapon lists work. This applies to some of the Survivor skill-tree ranks and is randomised.

[Q] Can I obtain these weapons without dockets?

[A] Yes, you can obtain these weapons by looting chests, police vans or purchase from vendors but it will not be Gold-tier rarity and the highest rarity it will reach is Orange (Legendary), difference between these methods and opening dockets is that dockets always contain Gold-tier weapons. The vendor stock can be refreshed by sleeping.

Note: - A unique chest exists in Countryside (The Following) that spawns only Orange rarity weapons. However it is necessary for the player to be on Normal difficulty mode as otherwise Hard or Nightmare mode causes weapon to appear Purple rarity which is one step below Orange. Don't like weapon you found in the chest? It's possible to replace it by sleeping which will spawn another weapon instead, however picking up the weapon will cause it require waiting before loot is respawned in the chest again.

Location of said chest.

Recommended
Free save slot
The Bozak Horde DLC
Patience
Delete, replace or backup unwanted save
Free save slot is not necessary unless you wish to obtain weapon which is only available at rank that you have passed.
For example Survivor rank 24 weapons no longer show up in dockets at Survivor rank 25 and onward.
Don't own Bozak Horde DLC and neither The Following? Consider the Season Pass.
(Prison Heist (free DLC) is also an option.)

[Q] Is Bozak Horde DLC required?

[A] Yes, Bozak dockets cannot be obtained without owning The Bozak Horde DLC. Due to extreme scarcity of weapon docket / docket codes generally (may take weeks to months for one to appear), The Bozak Horde is recommended as it is infinite source of weapon dockets and allows player to earn docket in matter of minutes on demand.

Feel free to open any other weapon dockets for which Bozak Horde DLC is not required. However it is unlikely you will have enough weapon dockets.

Alternative to Bozak Horde is playing Prison Heist, which is free DLC. In order to obtain Gold-tier weapons from Prison Heist it is needed to reach specific goal which is reaching armory under specific time based on current difficulty. Advanced Starting - Instant 3-15 Survivor Ranks

Advanced starting feature allows creating new save from selected story mission with appropriate ranks in skill-trees which can be used to instantly access Survivor ranks between 3-15.

This section is for weapons between Survivor rank 1-15. For the weapons above rank 15 see Beyond Survivor Rank 15+ section below.

To obtain Survivor skill-tree weapons ranging from level 1 to 15 an appropriate level save will be needed because each Survivor rank has its own weapons. This section will explain fastest way to create specific rank save.

Prologue [Rank 1-3]

Obtaining rank 1 and rank 2 Gold-tier weapons is a bit tricky because it requires going through Prologue. To begin Prologue start a new save without using Advanced menu.

To obtain Survivor skill-tree rank 1 Gold-tier weapons simply begin Prologue and proceed until meeting with the Quatermaster, make sure to open dockets and obtain wanted weapons before exiting Brecken's Tower. If you exit Brecken's Tower it'll become impossible to return without leveling up in Survivor skill-tree.

To obtain Survivor skill-tree rank 2 Gold-tier weapons, follow Prologue until meeting with Dr. Zere, this levels up Crane to rank 2, now return to Quartermaster as the door to Brecken's Tower should now be open.

Note: - Transferring these weapons to another save will be impossible until Prologue is finished. Prologue cannot be skipped after creating save.

Campaign [Rank 3-15]

Survivor rank 3 weapons are easiest to obtain since all you have to do is simply select First Assignment in Main Menu > Play > Campaign > New Game > Advanced > New Game From Quest. This skips Prologue and allows creating Survivor rank 3 save immediately.

Important note:
The main mission must be first completed using any other save before it becomes available as option when using New Game From Quest. Missions completed with deleted saves count.

Below is list of every mission with its predetermined Survivor rank including spawn point and quickest way of reaching Quartermaster.

If none of the missions above pinpoint exact desired Survivor skill-tree rank or beyond rank 15, use the Stuffed Turtle or any other preferred Quarantine Zone to obtain DROP(s), more information about this in the guide below.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=777741139

Getting DROP(s) quickly without Grappling Hook is tricky but it's not a problem:

Beyond Survivor Rank 15+ (Plus Legend & Survivor XP table guide)
Start a new game from Extraction quest to immediately appear at Survivor skill-tree rank 15 and afterwards use preferred Quarantine Zone. Stuffed Turtle is good option as it is one of the easiest to grind Quarantine Zones. The Fastest Way to Level up Legend explains how to obtain DROP(s) at optimal pace.

Note: - After Stuffed Turtle has been discovered it will appear on the map and in quest log. You may take advantage of this and fast travel to it by selecting Stuffed Turtle as quest and reloading save.

It is also possible to fast travel to the Quartermaster by tracking the main mission and reloading save.

Important note:
If you have DROP(s) for more than one rank avoid delivering it in bulk.

It's okay to gather as many DROP(s) as you wish however it's unwise to deliver all the DROP(s) at once.

For example, aiming to reach Survivor skill-tree rank 17 while being rank 15, instead of delivering all the 21 packages at once, first deliver 11 and then 10. Do this for rest of the ranks. Reason for this is bug which results in gaining slightly less experience than overall if DROP(s) are delivered in bulk.

Here is a side by side comparison of an attempt to reach rank 17 by delivering all at once on the left side and then separately at right side.

It's possible to open inventory and drop packages to the ground to avoid delivering everything at once. Alternatively place all DROP(s) in storage and only pick required amount of DROP(s) for the next level.

Click for a fully detailed Survivor XP table.

This quick chart below will begin from Survivor skill-tree rank 15 and show how many DROP(s) are required to deliver in order to advance past every rank throughout the Survivor skill-tree.

[Q] Example - what is the easiest way to reach Survivor skill-tree rank 18?

[A]
1. Start new save from Extraction mission - this immediately places you at Survivor rank 15.
2. Now a total of 31 DROP(s) are required to reach rank 18.
3. Find a Quarantine Zone called Stuffed Turtle (or any other preferred Quarantine Zone), location here
3. Enter the Stuffed Turtle and keep on replaying until 31 DROP(s) are collected.
4. Use the fast travel method to visit Quartermaster (Exit Stuffed Turtle, open quest log, select main mission, quit to main menu and select continue.
5. Don't deliver all the DROP(s) at once or it will result in gaining less experience. For this instance deliver packages in order: 11, 10 and 10.

Warning: - Items dropped on ground disappear when quitting save. Dropped items may also despawn when sleeping.

Note: - Quarantine Zones don't show up on the map or in quest log until discovered again on a new save.

Obtaining and the Dockets
[Q] What are dockets?

[A] Dockets are redeemable items accessed through any Quartermaster in the game. Dockets can also be found sitting in player's inventory under the category - Other ∞.
Once docket is used, it is consumed and permanently gone from all the saves. Although the cosmetic based dockets may glitch and sometimes persist, this is strictly not the case with weapon dockets.

FAQ[dockets.dyinglightgame.com]
https://dockets.dyinglightgame.com/

Think of something like portable loot chests, strongbox, starter kit or just free stuff. Dockets are tied to the account save which has its own file called default.pro that is located in the save files - \Steam\userdata\[SteamID3]\239140\remote\out\profiles. The default.pro file contains dockets including information (displayed in Main Menu > Extras > Personal Statistics) from all the existing and deleted saves, therefore dockets are shared between all the saves and are accessible to even newly created saves.

Various dockets exist, such as for cosmetic items including player outfit, buggy paint jobs, cosmetic blueprints for weapon and of course the weapon dockets containing only Gold-tier weapons. The cosmetic dockets are mainly obtained from community events.
[Q] What is weapon docket and what does it contain?

[A] Weapon dockets are type of dockets which focus on only weapons and have hundred percent chance of containing Gold-tier weapons. Weapon dockets exist with different names, such as Bozak dockets, Premium dockets, Special dockets, Gold-tier docket codes posted by Techland, from community events and etc. All the weapon dockets serve same purpose and contain only Gold-tier weapons.

A Gold-tier rarity is one level higher than Orange (Legendary). The Gold-tier weapons found in weapon dockets are the same weapons normally found looting in open world such as chests, police vans or bought from vendors, however these methods will only allow player to find up to Orange (Legendary) rarity weapons.

Fantasy weapons[dyinglight.fandom.com] are not available from weapon dockets. Unfortunately neither some of The Following weapons such as Hand Saws.
[Q] Does it matter which game difficulty I open dockets at?

[A] No, difficulty does not affect weapons obtained from dockets.

Note: - There was bug in past causing some dockets to not have 100% chance of containing Gold-tier weapons at lower difficulties, changing into Nightmare mode would be needed to maximize Gold-tier chance. This was later fixed and all the weapon dockets received 100% Gold-tier chance. This bug may return in offline mode.
[Q] Does the New Game + status affect weapons I get from dockets?

[A] No.

Details about New Game + - https://dyinglight.fandom.com/wiki/New_Game_Plus
[Q] Does it matter which Quartermaster I use to open dockets?

[A] No, the rewards are same.
[Q] Is there a difference between Bozak and other weapon dockets?

[A] There is no difference between weapon dockets except the name and how it is obtained.

However there is still advantage in having variety of weapon dockets ready in inventory. Although this mainly applies to Survivor skill-tree, the weapon lists are explained in answer below [Q] I'm not getting the weapon I want despite it being included in this rank according to guide. in Summary / Q&A above, it is possible for each type of weapon docket to have own randomised list of available weapons assigned.

This means that for example after opening ~20 Bozak dockets and not finding the desired weapon, opening another type of weapon docket can help. Chances are that the other dockets received correct list which includes wanted weapon and if lucky, one may avoid having to create new save.

How to Obtain Weapon Dockets

The Bozak Horde

The Bozak dockets are earned by playing through The Bozak Horde DLC with about 20-25 minutes per average full session (20 trial) run. Thankfully The Bozak Horde is one of the repeatable side quests which allows players to earn as many dockets as they wish.

The first Bozak docket is earned by completing trial 5 (Disarm 3 bombs), the second docket is earned by completing trial 12 (Elevator trial) and the third docket at the end of final trial which is 20.

Note: - It is not necessary to complete all the 20 Bozak trials to earn dockets, it's possible to slightly accelerate the process of earning Bozak dockets by replaying until trial 5. It is also possible to play Bozak Horde Co-op with other players for easier time.

Details about The Bozak Horde in the guide below.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=771766520

Premium Dockets

The Premium dockets are earned by activating docket codes posted regularly by Techland in the official websites such as Twitter - https://twitter.com/dyinglightgame

Activate the codes at - https://dockets.dyinglightgame.com/
Premium dockets will soon appear in the Quartermaster after linking your platform.

Other weapon dockets

There are not many weapon dockets besides from community events which are usually rare and beyond player's control.

http://dyinglightgame.com/bounties/
Community events can also be tracked via Dying Light's twitter page.
TL;DR
Already experienced? Don't need too much explaining? This section will attempt to simplify the guide.

If you are here for only entertainment, simply jump straight to Survivor or Legend skill-tree sections. If you are here to obtain specific weapon here's how to:

Survivor skill-tree

  • Pick weapon(s) you like from one of the Survivor Skill-Tree Rank * sections
  • Have save with required level? Simply load it and open Bozak dockets (or any other weapon docket).

Don't have enough dockets? Play Bozak Horde to get more.

Have save with lower level? Obtain DROP(s) from Stuffed Turtle or any preferred Quarantine Zone until you have enough. You may also try the Advanced starting feature (requires save slot) - Main Menu > Play > Campaign > New Game > Advanced > New Game From Quest > pick appropriate level mission - see chart of missions and its levels in the Advanced starting section

Optional - It is also possible to download save which I have created for those who simply want to jump in and get specific weapon without having to grind or create specific level save - see Save Files - Download & Installation section
  • Not getting wanted weapon after opening ~20 Bozak dockets? This is unlucky, a wrong set of weapons may have been assigned to this save which does not contain that weapon, this is explained in answer below [Q] I'm not getting the desired weapon but the guide says it's included in this rank. in Summary - Q&A. Try another type of weapon docket(s), restarting save, sleeping or other Quartermaster. The most reliable way to get around this is creating another save.

Legend skill-tree

  • The Legend skill-tree is more straightforward than Survivor skill-tree. Due to its nature which is explained in * Intro - Legend Sections +General Info section, in most cases you will only need high enough Legend level save. You may use any preferred Quarantine Zone to level up - or if you do not wish to grind, consider Save Files - Download & Installation section.
  • If your objective is to obtain one of the Legend level 1-24 exclusive weapons consider playing Prison Heist for Guru reward if Be The Zombie is too much. Otherwise create a Survivor rank 25 save in which scenario you'll need to grind for 158 DROP(s) - see Beyond Survivor Rank 15+ section.

* Intro - Legend Sections +General Info
Since being Survivor rank 25 and Legend level 1 happens simultaneously, the very first Legend skill-tree section is merged with Survivor rank 25 section.

* Legend Skill-Tree Sections - Important information and notes:
  • The Legend skill-tree works differently than Survivor skill-tree, unlike Survivor skill-tree which introduces another list of weapons every new rank, the Legend skill-tree instead merges newly unlocked weapons with what was previously available (starting from Legend level 1) and expands on it as player advances through Legend skill-tree.
  • As result, instead of listing every single available weapon at every level, such as how Survivor skill-tree sections is done, the Legend skill-tree sections will only list newly unlocked weapons to avoid listing the same weapons over again.
  • Addendum to the above: - There is an exception where certain weapons are only available between Legend levels of 1-24. Names of these weapons and details in the Legend Skill-Tree Level 25-49 section below. This is the only known instance of exclusivity. The rest of the Legend level 1 weapons, including every later unlocked weapon remains available throughout the entire Legend skill-tree. This means that a Legend level 100 character for example is still eligible for weapons previously unlocked at Legend level 1, 25, 50 and 75.
  • The Legend skill-tree section naming. Taking the section Legend Skill-Tree Level 25-49 for example, all the shown weapons in this section unlock as soon as player reaches Legend level 25 and nothing further unlocks until player levels up to 50.

Below this is general information about Legend skill-tree, leveling it up and its influence on weapons and damage. It's not important to read further.

(Optional)
Info - Legend skill-tree and its influence on weapons

Legend skill-tree unlocks immediately upon reaching maximum rank in either Survivor (25), Agility (24) or Power (24).

When Survivor skill-tree reaches rank 25 weapons no longer increase in terms of permanent base damage. From this point damage can only be raised further by crafting / upgrading weapon and adding Legend skill-points in the respective categories, e.g One-Handed - which will globally increase damage on all existing and later obtained weapons, such as Machete.

Different kind of weapons with various prefix and skins unlock throughout Legend skill-tree.

(Optional)
Info - Legend skill-tree influence on damage

Damage boost gained from Legend skills rather act as a personal bonus instead of increasing permanent damage on weapons. Damage is applied and remains as long as skill-points in Legend skill-tree are present. For example, one handed 1,000 damage weapon will appear as 2,000 damage weapon if player has placed 25 points into One-Handed skill, the damage will return to 1,000 upon removing skill-points by using the respec option.

Same rules apply to the weapon dropped on ground, players will see damage number on weapon from their perspective based on invested skill-points in that category.

Scenario: a machete that has 2,000 base damage is dropped on ground
Player 1 - has 25 points in One-Handed skill - sees the weapon with 4,000 damage
Player 2 - has no points in One-Handed skill - sees the weapon with 2,000 damage

(Optional)
Info - leveling up Legend skill-tree

After unlocking Legend skill-tree by reaching final rank in respective skill-tree, the experience gained through this skill-tree will transfer to Legend skill-tree.

The experience transferred from maxed out skill-tree into Legend skill-tree gains boost of 2.5x (5.0x at night) rate on Hard mode difficulty and 10x (20x at night) rate on Nightmare mode difficulty.

Note that DROP(s) unlike Agility and Power skill-trees, do not get doubled experience when delivered at night time. However DROP(s) still benefit from difficulty experience multiplier, therefore it's recommended to deliver DROP(s) on Nightmare mode after unlocking Legend skill-tree through Survivor skill-tree.

Details about Survivor and Legend experience can be found in Fastest Way to Level up Legend (Legit) in experience gain and loss section.
Legend Skill-Tree Level 25-49
List of weapons no longer available at these levels and onward:
  • Heavy Tribal Axe
  • Premium Katana
  • Ferocious Baseball Bat
  • Skull Machete
  • Ferocious Sledgehammer (Rusty)
  • Ferocious Sledgehammer (Green)
  • Ferocious Sledgehammer (Blue)
  • Safety Blade
  • Boomerang Blade

It is possible to obtain the weapons mentioned above from the Prison Heist's armory (Singleplayer, Co-op, free DLC) when reaching Guru reward tier even at higher Legend levels. As well as a reward from Be The Zombie mode (Online, Multiplayer, free DLC), requires being Underdog[forum.techland.pl] rank or above.

The rest of the weapons from Survivor Rank 25 & Legend Level 1-24 section remain available throughout the entire Legend skill-tree.

Legend Skill-Tree Level 225-250
Legend level 225 is the final level which weapons unlock. Unfortunately no new weapons have been detected after Legend level 225, even at Legend level 250.

You are eligible of all the weapons Legend skill-tree has to offer. However the Legend level 1-24 exclusive weapons still remain locked - details about these weapons in the beginning of Legend Skill-Tree Level 25-49 section.

Save Files - Download & Installation
This section is entirely optional. It is for people who would rather skip grinding or make new game part. I recommend ignoring this section if you are the kind of person who prefers to achieve everything on their own.

This section has two save files, one for Survivor and another for Legend skill-tree.
Both saves have enough DROP(s) ready to reach maximum rank / level of its respective skill-trees.

Note: - Saves do not contain weapons or dockets.

Why this section?

While I greatly recommend everyone to play and farm levels, I also respect that everyone has their own preferences, play style, potential lack of free time or simply do not wish to go through the madness of what is collecting thousands of DROP(s), therefore I leave this option available to everyone.

This guide would not work without at least providing such shortcut. That said, I encourage to not misuse the save files as this can lead to consequences.

Please read the important note below before downloading saves.

[Q] Can I transfer weapons into my main save?

[A] Yes but Co-op is required. Allow other player to pick it up and then give you on main save.

Unsure how to install? Installation instruction below. Be sure to backup 239140 folder before attempting any save file changes.

Has 6,582 DROP(s) to reach Level 250

Download[drive.google.com]

Note (Legend 1-250 save): - Make sure to deliver DROP(s) on Nightmare difficulty, otherwise it is not enough to reach level 250
Note: - DROP(s) are placed in stash!

Important note: -
The only purpose of these saves is to quickly access and obtain level locked weapons. To use it as a mean to circumvent game progression outside purpose of guide in general gameplay, e.g play Campaign, Be the Zombie etc, is greatly discouraged. It is recommended to delete save after use as it takes away major part of game progression - potential road to boredom!

How to Install - Finding the Dying Light's save location

Example - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\101330877\239140\remote\out\save

  1. Find Steam installation directory or simply use Steam's shortcut > Right click > Properties > Open File Location
  2. Open userdata
  3. Open the folder that represents SteamID3 of current account (how to find SteamID3 below)
  4. Find and open folder '239140' which is the Dying Light's Steam store ID
  5. Open remote
  6. Open out
  7. Open save

The save folder contains two different saves:
save_btz representing Be The Zombie (Hunter) saves
save_coop representing Campaign and The Following saves (both put together in one file)
Up to 4 different versions of save_btz and save_coop can exist
Each representing the correct order of created saves

Finding Steam ID3

This is very simple, use Steam ID finder website to look up Steam profile, such as
https://steamidfinder.com
This is wanted folder

Understanding Dying Light's save files (Optional)

4 save scenario
In this (cheaply made) picture I have one Be The Zombie and four Campaign saves. As result, one save_btz and four save_coop files appear in the save folder.

The files in save folder appear according to its created order. While order of the saves change in game, the order of files do not, which means save_coop_0 is always the very first save created by player and save_coop_3 last.
Save files retain its order name (0, 1, 2, or 3) until deleted from within game, manually replaced or renamed by player. Deleting save does not affect name of the other saves.

Starting a new game claims the first available number (0, 1, 2, or 3) in order.

For instance if the second save is deleted, the save_coop_1 file will disappear and later be replaced by new game. But if the very first save is not present as a result of being deleted too, then instead save_coop_0 will be taken.

1 save scenario
Note: - In the actual one save scenario it is usually named save_coop_0, since the _0 represents the very first save created by player. In this particular screenshot scenario, it appears that the very first, second and third saves were deleted, for this reason the name of file is save_coop_3 which represents the fourth save.
How to NOT install: -
Downloading the save, renaming it into whatever save_coop_(1, 2 or 3) and dragging it into the save folder will not work, the installed save will simply not show up in game. The reason for this is Dying Light will not recognise save file if it does not know that this save exists within game.

How to install: -
To get Dying Light recognise any save file first you must start new save from within the game which will cause new save file to be created, afterwards replace this newly created save file with any other save file you want.
Note: - This also applies to deleted saves. For example if you delete your saves and then use backup files, the game will no longer recognise the deleted saves. To solve this, first fill up empty save slots by starting new game on each and then use the backup save files, this will successfully restore backed up saves without any problem.

Installation - Getting around the save recognition bug

Installing Dying Light save is a little different than other games because of an issue with Dying Light's save recognition. To get around this, you have to first create a new save file by starting new game and then replace it with the save file you are trying to install.

Important note: - Don't forget to backup 239140 folder.
  1. Download the save
  2. Open the 239140\remote\out\save folder
  3. Remember all files and its names present in this folder
  4. Launch Dying Light
  5. Create a new save by any means, difficulty doesn't matter
  6. Skip cutscene if there is one, you may quit to main menu as soon as the game allows you to open menu
  7. Quit to desktop
  8. Delete the newly created save file in 239140\remote\out\save
  9. Rename downloaded save from save_coop_0 into the name of deleted save file
  10. Drag the downloaded and renamed save file into save folder
  11. Launch Dying Light and confirm that the previously created new save now appears as the save you downloaded

This method requires at least one free save slot as it adds another save alongside existing saves. If there is no free slot then simply replace one of the existing saves with the downloaded save and then use the backup after you are done.

Absolutely Fantastic guide.
I have just unlocked legendary levels a couple of days ago so I wanted to see if there was anything else to unlock.

I have yet to beat the main campaign or do the following (which I am really looking forward to).
Only recently learned of doing Stuffed Turtle on nightmare to level up a few times. I need to go back to hard and complete the story.
Thanks again for the information, presented really well and so useful.

Oh, I thought, that if you are openning dockets in The Countryside it was possbile to obtain them. Thank you for the answer! :)
Blade Master  [author] Mar 4, 2021 @ 6:34am
@Kill-Real: Hello, they're unobtainable from dockets, but you can find them in the chests in The Following. If I remember correctly, you can also purchase scythes and handsaws from the traders in The Following.
Kill-Real Mar 4, 2021 @ 5:24am
what about handsaws and scythes?
