Enhanced Video Settings

EVS expands the graphics options with simple config changes.

This is an experimental mini-mod.
Some settings may not work or may cause issues.

Usage: open the video settings and try the new levels for the old options.

  • View distance goes up to 40,000m
  • shadow distance 3,000m (above ~500m will cause some glitching and a hit on performance)
  • Terrain detail Ultra+ (grass clutter renders further and distant terrain is more detailed. Setting overrides the vanilla limit on very high terrain view distance)
  • more particles.
  • higher resolution shadows (spectacular with high shadow distance)
  • lower/higher textures and object detail (not very noticeable effect, except in the low end)
  • better clouds (slightly more volume)
  • more dynamic lights (the vanilla limit is 16 lights, EVS uses the maximum hard-coded limit of 32)
  • More depth of field and sharpening (beyond reasonable levels)
  • Client-side only

Latest changelog:
August 31st 2018:
Forced Ultra+ terrain detail level is even more detailed.
Optimized, less jagged shadows.
Some slider limits adjusted.

There's no official word about Arma 4 but we know the developers have been working on the new engine for years now. My wild guess is that they'll announce a new game this year.
Although I doubt we'll see any huge improvements in grass rendering in the next game.

"Arma already has a special technique to simulate this by rendering human units slightly below the ground on grassy terrains." Oh, I always thought it was a bug, but it was on purpose.Thank you for your answer.I'm really looking forward to the release of Arma4.Can you predict when it will be released?

Unfortunately, rendering the grass much further with the methods this mod uses is not possible. You'd need to change each terrain out there individually and that's out of the scope of the mod.
Also extending the clutter for hundreds of meters would also have a massive impact on FPS and the game would most likely just crash way before 2500m.

Arma already has a special technique to simulate this by rendering human units slightly below the ground on grassy terrains. It not a perfect system but it's the best we've got in this game.

In the game, the naked eye can see the grass at 100 meters. The maximum magnification of the general rangefinder is 25 times, so the telescope should be able to see the grass at 2500 meters. It would be nice to get to that point.

I only care about how far I can see the grass, I can't hide in the grass in the distance, it doesn't match the reality, and it frustrates me.Thank you for the work you've done, but I wish I could see the grass at a longer distance.

Good work. The grass can be seen with a telescope for three hundred meters, but the ground is still bare beyond three hundred meters.Hope for better versions.

There's some hard-coded limits to the settings that disable the highest options when certain things have already been set too high. I think it's somehow related to the available amount of ram/gpu memory. Like if you put the view distance way up, the ultra terrain detail option disappears. Textures might have that too.

There might be a bug in this mod too. Can't say for sure right now. Although I regularly set everything to maximum but I haven't had it affect textures.

I don't know if this is a problem with the mod or Arma 3, but there isn't any options for textures to be above standard sometimes. At times an option for High appears but usually it's just Low and Standard. No ultra option or anything.

Yes. without any mods else, when 3rd camera moved, clouds can just hide
Sams  [author] Nov 8, 2020 @ 8:09am
I haven't seen that before. Do you know if it happens in every map? Even without any other mods?
The setting's effect is pretty small but it shouldn't make the clouds worse in any situation...
