Operation Barbarossa, 22nd June 1941

Operation Barbarossa was the code name for the Axis invasion of the Soviet Union, starting Sunday, 22 June 1941, during World War II. The operation stemmed from Nazi Germany's ideological aims to conquer the western Soviet Union so that it could be repopulated by Germans, to use Slavs as a slave-labour force for the Axis war-effort, and to seize the oil reserves of the Caucasus and the agricultural resources of Soviet territories.



-Situation-
This morning, Wehrmacht forces began pouring over the German-Soviet border through the former state of Poland. The Red Army has been thrown into utter chaos as our panzers spearhead the blitzkrieg assault. However, some elements of the Red Army have stood fast and are refusing to abandon their positions. Due to the rapid advance by the panzers they were unable to spend time clearing these urban locations, for fear of delaying the operation. Leading the infantry follow-up force, it is your duty to clear out the rats that continue to hold their ground.

-Mission-
Your mission is to advance from the north towards the town of Szydlow. Once within range of the town you are to render their anti-air defences useless, seize the south gate and capture their HQ. After securing the town, move to destroy the anti-tank position located on a hill to the south-east.
