'Pitz' Anti Wolf Drone

Description
This little drone is the design used in my second autopilot tutorial.

It was designed to be able to refuel and rearm itself from your base as long as its connector remains stocked with ammunition and uranium.

To have it work in your own world, first paste the ship in, then manually fly it to the connector and when in a position to dock create a GPS waypoint called 'Dock', then fly up 10-20m and create a second waypoint called 'Dock Approach'. Then simply create your own patrol waypoints and replace the patrol waypoints in the remote control block.

Once all that's done it should work once you turn on the autopilot, just remember to keep it fed and it'll keep taking care of those wolves!

Or better yet, strip it apart, learn how it works and build something even better! If you go down this road be sure to post what you've come up with :)

Have a look at in action and how it's built so you can make your own: https://youtu.be/LHQC6JrJb2E

Nope. While there are some ways that are coming that might make mobile 'GPS' markers possible at present in vanilla you can't do that

Is there a way to make the drone dock to a mobile ship instead of gps coordinates? I imagine theres a way to have the coordinates be the coordinates of a block instead of static coords but I'm not sure how to do that

how you making them guns look around like that?

What a bummer reading these comments causes a person to feel! It's such a shame this game is so buggy with so many things. Since it was released it's always had potential to be an amazing game but the lack of turorials IN the game that teach a new player even the basics of the game enough that they can actually play and do things and all of the bugs makes it extremely difficult for new players to understand any of it. Your videos definitely help, Splitsie! Unfortunately it doesn't seem like many people think to search youtube to learn about this game before they give up frustrated because it's so difficult to learn and it's plethora of bugs on top of the learning curve.
I've had the game since it was Green Light and I have to take long hiatuses from playing it because it gets too frustrating for me.

I have used this design in both atmospheric design and adapted for zero-g with ion thrusters. The drones are fairly capable against space pirate drones as long as their range is set to max. Simple and effective. Thanks @Splitsie!:steamhappy:

Sad but true, thankfully the number of scripts out there for performing advanced autopiloting is steadily increasing so I may be able to continue the tutorials with those in the not too distant future (when time is magically available) :P

Thanks for the reply, Splisie. I agree, autopilot has MANY bugs.

There are many, many, many bugs with the vanilla autopilot. This was the most reliable design I managed to construct. I had plans to do more tutorials on how to use it, but ran into so many inconsistencies that I had to scrap those plans :(

I have a repeatable bug. My drone went to a patrol bm, switched back and forth between 4 bms and then freaked out and proceeded to a random patrol bm. Also, my drone wont dock correctly - hovers, dock goes yellow for 1 sec, then it takes back off... Seems like bugs.
