Chroma: INSANE Damage And Survivability

If you don't like dying, you might want to check out Chroma, the incredible fire breathing tank! This guide includes builds, arcane suggestions, and ability explanations. Chroma also has an incredible damage buff ability. There's an old credit farming build that may be obsolete now, but I'm going to include it anyway.

COLD CHROMA

Chroma can take one hell of a beating. He is not quite invincible like wukong and valkyrie, but he is the next best thing. He also makes up for it with his HUGE damage buff.

Chroma has four different elements, heat, cold, toxin, and electric. Cold Chroma is the tank. In order to select the cold version of Chroma, you have to go into the appearance screen.

Then select any white color for energy.


It doesn't matter which one you pick as long as it is white. If you've chosen the right color that registers as cold, you will see a symbol next to energy.

If it's the snowflake, then you're ready to go!





If you're having energy issues, here are some options:

• Swap intensify for Hunter Adrenaline
  
• Swap Blind range with energy conversion and mobilize with power drift
  
• Forma aura to - and swap steel charge for energy siphon

If you don't like using melee:

• Forma aura to - and swap steel charge for corrosive projection

If you want more survivability:

• Swap Intensify for Adaptation
  
• Forma aura to D and swap steel charge for rejuvenation

If you want more power strength:

• Swap steel charge for growing power, and mobilize with coaction drift.
  
• Note: You will need to proc status effects on enemies. Using artax is a popular method.

Chroma is pretty simple to play. Just cast his 2nd ability, elemental ward, and his 3rd ability, vex armor. Elemental ward gives you an armor bonus. The third ability also boosts armor and damage according to how much damage is being taken. After taking lots of damage, you'll see icon top right cornor showing % damage buff.

In order to max out vex armor, you can wait to be damaged by enemies which will have varying results, OR equip a weapon capable of self-damage and do it yourself. Options are glaive variants, cerata, any kunai-type throwable weapon (equipped with mod, "concealed explosives"), and angstrum variants. The key is to mod the weapon so that it only does just enough damage to max out vex armor and avoid over-damage. In that case, the weapon will be weak and will probably have no other practical use. I recommend choosing secondary if you don't mind losing your favored secondary or melee if you don't mind losing your melee of choice.

*Arcanes are rewarded from Eidolon captures. A complete set is 10 of each.

BEST ARCANES FOR CHROMA

• ARCANE GRACE

  A full set gives a 6% chance on being damaged to receive 4% health regeneration per second. The armor mitigates a % of all incoming damage. However, that health will slowly be chipped away. With arcane grace, health will stay topped off. You will not regret investing in a set. It will cost about 1500-2000 platinum for 10.
  

• ARCANE GAURDIAN

  Chroma isn't as tanky since he was nerfed, so a gaurdian set will help him catch up to par.

ALTERNATIVE SETS

• ARCANE FURY

  This is the best complimentary set when using high critical melee weapons. It gives a 20% chance on critical hit for a +40% increase in melee damage. This set costs about 800-1000 platinum.
  
  

• ARCANE STRIKE

  This is the best complimentary set when using a pure status type melee weapon. It gives a 10% chance on hit for +20% increased attack speed. This set costs about 200 platinum.
  
  

• ARCANE AVENGER

  This is the best complimentary set if you need more critical chance on your weapons. It gives a 14% chance on being damaged to have an ADDITIVE +30% critical chance to your weapons. Meaning if your total critical chance on your weapon is 60%, it will become 90% when avenger is proc'd. This set costs about 1500-2000 platinum.

OPERATOR ARCANES

*Operator arcane blueprints are bought with The Quills standing points.

• MAGUS ELEVATE

  With a set of 10, magus elevate gives a 75% chance for +200 healing to your warframe when transferring from operator back to warframe. Beware of possible nerfs in the future. Only time will tell. To take full advantage of this arcane, one must spam in and out of operator. Although this arcane set will heal much faster than arcane grace, arcane grace's advantage is that it heals passively, while with magus elevate you need to actively spam operator. However, one can always equip both arcane grace and magus elevate. Current price is 3000 platinum for a set of 10, but will likely drop over time.

HOW TO SELF-HEAL

ARCANES

LIFE STRIKE

I only recommend this mod on your melee weapon if you intend not to use melee as your main damage dealer. Taking up a mod slot dampens the melee weapon's dps.

VAZARIN

Use protective dash skill. Void dash through your warframe to be healed by 75% over 5 seconds at max rank.

FURIS

*Mod works on furis, and NOT afuris or dex furis.

The furis will likely play the role as life regenerator and not as primary damage dealer.

FIRE CHROMA

Chroma's fourth ability is called effigy. Chroma's carapace is removed and becomes an effigy that will fight for you.


It will stand there stationary, and blow fire at enemies that get in range.
The effigy increases all credit pick up by 100% in a 10 meter radius.

Again, make sure to choose an orange energy color, until you see the fire symbol.

There is quite a bit of energy drain, so a Trinity will be needed in the party to cast, "Energy Vampire." This fire chroma is the old way of credit farming. I'm not sure if this is still done today. People used to bring a fire chroma to sechura, pluto, or eris, akkad with a pre-made team. Another way of credit farming people seem to do is hierchon with quick extractions. Last time I checked a few months ago index medium risk nets 400k with a credit booster. Index seemed to be the fastest credit farm. This is not a credit farm guide, so I will leave you to decide what works best for you.


Secura lecta gives extra credit drops from kills. If you want all kills come from secura lecta, then here is a low strength effigy build.

Yo. Just putting it out there. Chromas effigy aren't allowed to kill the enemies to get the credits. It has a hidden 10m radius around it where it boosts credits dropped by enemies. So a chroma with negative power strength and max effiency and secura lecta works wonders for credits, if you keep killing inside the sphere 10m radius. But index is indeed better still.

Actually, Hunter adrenaline is better than Rage and way easier to get. it costs 11 capacity tho.

Hirudo is amazing for keeping your health topped off. It also increases your base health by 25%, it's not much, but can be a pretty big buff depending on how high your armor is.
