Oxide Blaze

Man it's been a long time since I made another Oxide Blaze skin. I've been looking for possible guns to put it on and this resulted in 6 weapons being semi-finished. I decided to finally finish one of these weapons and I wanted to go with the XM1014. This is the first time I drew flames on a gun without these flames actually being on the barrel. I hope you like it!

Work Progress

The work progress was pretty simple. I started where I decided to abandon the project and that was when I had applied the rust to the specific parts of the weapon. I looked at the geometry of the XM1014 and loved the flat surface it had, just like the Sawed-Off. Initially I started with a very similair design as the Sawed-Off with big text saying "KILLS" and an arrow pointing at the part where I thought the kill counter would be. After loading this design in-game I noticed one little error I made and that is that the kill counter actually appears way further back then I initially expected.

I decided to scrap the idea because I didn't want to have the tally's on the non-rusted grip part. So there I was, left without an idea. I then decided to see what it would look like with flames and as soon as I started painting them I realised this could be pretty neat. I finished my flames and thought it looked okay. It still felt a little weird though that the flames weren't at the barrel of the gun and that there all of a sudden was no more paint on the barrel. I decided to draw the little stripes on the barrel to get a more smooth transition and luckily that semi-finished my dissatisfaction.

After that I added the smiley that I always place on my skins and started adding little exhaust holes on the barrel. It looked nice on the Sawed-Off and it also looked pretty neat on the XM1014. After that I started thinking about the grip and the cockback mechanism and I initially wanted to go with wood. After quickly applying my wooden material I realised the finish would become way too dark and it would look very strange. I removed the wood and went with a more greyish plastic instead. Added some scratches to make it look real and called it a day.

The grip patch on the buttstock is a copy from the UMP-45 Oxide Blaze which I thought looked nice and I made some final adjustments to the end off the barrel. I added some dark paint at the end and some white paint underneath it so it was once again a more smooth transition. The XM1014 turned out to be a lot harder to make designs for then I expected. This is probably due to the pretty big length of the barrel. After making the screenshots I was pretty satisfied with the end result and I hope you like it too :)

Wear Progress

The wear goes up to a maximum of 0.80. In the factory new condition the cockback mechanism and the grip have little scratches and near the smiley on the rusted part appear scratches. At minimal wear the first cracks come through and from field-tested on it starts wearing quite quickly. The maximum float of 0.80 is a really really worn version since I thought there should be a big distinction between 0.47 battle-scarred and 0.80 battle-scarred.

Final Words

I sincerely hope you enjoy the XM1014 | Oxide Blaze. I'm still very busy with de_Studio. The deadline for the FACEIT competition is in 2 months and we still have some parts that need their initial art pass. I think I should be able to finish 2-3 more oxidized finishes before this deadline but we'll have to see how everything goes. At least I released another custom static skin instead of a pattern :)
