Escaped. Base was within a few hexes of the north pole and got down to -92C at some points. I was running a few mods, circuit breakers, a hauling mod that makes people pick up their max load in items, and a game speed mod (no advantage, just convenience). This screen shot was taken just before launch.

I am currently playing something similar, but I am playing it as a Tribal who got expelled from his tribe and dropped in the Ice Sea as punishement for commiting cannibalism, and dropped there with only clothes, a spear and 5 simple meals, I am also playing with some mods that add stuff like water as a requirement. also I am running a fishing mod that lets you fish throught the ice as long as under it there is deep water, but yeah it has been tough I am living on just a couple of days of food and constantly moving from tile to tile to find more food.

Mate, this is super easy. Back in 16 it was horrible, I found a map with -146 winter temperature, -90 in summer. This was with the default crashlanding btw, and I made it 3/4 of the way to the ending without leaving my one single sea ioce tile before 17 hit us and broke my save. But now in 18, the coldest map I've found from 16 tests at the lowest temperature was -84 in winter, -20 in summer, which makes the challenge not worth it for me. I thought this was a mod to fix the temperature thing, so I'm a bit disappointed but that's not your fault.

You will probably want to use the perma cold snap mod with this, or summer starts are not cold enough.

Ironically, I found this challenge to be easier on higher difficulties because of the frequent raids or, as I like to call them, walking meat. Also, the Fishing Pier mod can help a lot if you have water around (though there is like 1 fish a day on those frozen lakes). Getting the wood to build that is definitely hard, it's important to build a comms console and beacon fast so that you can trade with orbital traders. The More Trade Ships mod is also very helpful in this regard.

I haven't succeeded at Sea Ice regions yet but my theory is

Get wood from traders or

Use silver and steel as your building blocks.

You can also literally live in a small square of a house...many of the other work tables that you build will have to be outside, suffering the outside debuff, but considering how long you have to spend in between interactions with other groups, I'm sure you won't care that you take longer to do something... hehe

The other thing I've seen someone mention, but haven't tried it, is to get the water pump and remove the small ponds that you see. Once you do that, you will reveal some soil.

Also RNG will factor in this. After several restarts, there was one time where I woke up to having 6 muffalos spawn on the map. That was a lot of meat that helped my colonists through some lean times.

So, I did see all the things about the sea ice challenge, but there is a longer term problem I bet will be hard to ignore: how would you grow wood? there is no soil on the map, so you can't make an indoor sun lamp area for it. trees also can't be put in hydroponics.

I've played sea ice with my own scenario. It's possible, difficult but possible. Once we are settled, its pretty much the same with other biomes though, just less raids etc. I stopped playing just because its boring, you can pass an entire year without anything happened.
