Era - 1950s / 1960s - Judo / Proto MMA

A top level Judoka with close connections to professional wrestling, Gene LeBell was a participant in what many consider to be the first televised example of Mixed Martial Arts in America, taking on boxer Milo Savage in 1963 and defeating him in four rounds.

LeBell is well known for passing his knowledge along, to professional fighters, pro wrestlers and to martial arts actors such as Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris.
