Sanae Kikuta

The Newaza King, the Grabaka Commander, the Wandering Fighter--it's Sanae KIkuta, an unheralded legend of MMA. He's one of those figures who just never quite put it together on the big stage, losing under the pressure in situations he really should have won, but he also had a career that lasted just shy of twenty years, spanning the entire rise, fall and rebuilding of MMA in Japan. Along the way he fought in Pride and the UFC alike, won a Pancrase championship, won two of the Lumax Cup tournaments, outgrappled Saulo Ribeiro, founded the Grabaka gym and kept an immaculate head of hair the entire time. One of the most methodical submission grapplers the sport has ever seen. (Don't watch the Renzo match. It's like Sakuraba vs Royce without the drama.)
