How To Make Thousands of Platinum Selling Rivens
Por ThePHiLsTeR [¬º-°]¬
I have made thousands and thousands of platinum selling rivens. I also own many rivens for personal use that are worth thousands. I have been doing this ever since the initial riven release and I am going to share my knowledge with you.

UPDATE OCTOBER 2018
This guide only applies to popular weapons. When I say popular weapons, I do not mean a weapon everyone likes. I mean a weapon that everyone is seeking a riven for. Mostly likely this will be weapons used in eidolon hunting, or newly released powerful weapons, newly released new meta weapons, meta weapons for newly released content (fortuna coming). I do not riven trade as heavily anymore, but these generalities still do apply.

Riven trading has been around for a while now, and many people have all the rivens they want. If a weapon is not popular, then it is not worth grinding kuva and rerolling. Waste of time for platinum selling unless you want to use it for yourself.
INTRODUCTION
First of all, I want to acknowledge that prices and trends are always changing. Some of the things I mention in this guide may not apply tomorrow, but if you get the generalities it should help you become more successful.

Here are some deals I have done in the past.
ROLLING RIVENS
Now, you may say to yourself, I'll never get god tier rivens!! There's no way I'm going to make all that platinum. This is true if you're rolling each riven a few times and quiting. If you really want to get serious into making platinum, you'll need some platinum to start. You're going to need 200 platinum to buy a month resource booster and you're going to need to buy unrolled trash rivens which are available at different prices depending on the weapon the riven is for.

Run all kuva missions, rinse, and repeat. Since the release of melee rivens, I've rerolled 5 rivens (3 scoliac, 1 galatine, 1 tipedo) a total of about 150 to 200 times and I made a profit of about 2500 to 3000 platinum. Of course this is all RNG based, so sometimes you can be on a cold streak and then boom you unveil a godly riven without even rerolling it.

Since it takes so much rolling, you're going to want to speed run kuva missions. I made a guide on Volt you can check out by clicking here: Optimized Volt Builds: An Advanced Guide. I suggest only running kuva missions solo or with a friend. I personally run Volt or Octavia/Loki for invisibility in solo mode (some more difficult missions you may want to join a pub if you have no partner). When running in pubs, the kuva siphon becomes a cluster ****, and makes it harder to capture the kuva cloud. With invisibility, things become quite peaceful and easy.

Running with a friend is great because one of you can solo the kuva siphon while the other completes the mission. In the following video I run volt for the speed boost and my friend runs octavia for invisibility.
Example missions types that benefit from a duo are spy and mobile defense. The mission objective and kuva siphon can be completed at almost the same time.
TRENDS
You want to be paying attention to trends and what people are looking for. You can get a handle on prices by skimming through:

What you want to look for are not asking prices, but offer prices and what real transactions are going on, because people are always going to ask high when selling and ask low when buying. Example of an offer is, "WTB [atterax] riven with +slide crit, +range, offering up to 3k platinum." Looking at what is offered or what actual transactions are happening puts you in the reality of the situation.

The latest and greatest tend to be most expensive since nobody has the riven yet. Take a look at these couple of transactions I did when rivens were first released.
As you can see, these mods aren't even good, but I sold them at whopping prices. It's because rivens were new. Right now, melee rivens are new so most people do not have them and are in the market for them, so expect quick sales and increased prices. Also note that rivens have been out for a while and people have smartened up about stats. Buyers will expect good stats for the money.

All the meta weapons will always be sought after. However, there are non-meta weapons that all of a sudden become good with rivens. It takes some time for the general public to find out which normally unpopular weapons are good with a riven. For example, a few months ago the amprex and opticor rivens weren't popular. Then all of a sudden the trade chat was flooded with these rivens. Stay current with trends and only roll popular to hot rivens. Right now, the scoliac riven is hot because it can potentially replace the atterax. The scoliac is basically a weaker atterax with lower base damage, crit multiplier, and status chance. The atterax is only 1 circle disposition while the scoliac is 4 circle. With a good riven the scoliac can surpass the atterax in damage as well as have over 50% more range! The dread riven used to be super hot. Now its disposition has gone from 1 circle to 2 circles, because people are finding other options other than the dread! Weapon buffs and nerfs also affect riven prices. Tonkor was patched to do self-damage and went from hot to unpopular. The zarr replaced tonkor as the popular launcher. The opticor was recently buffed and more people are in the market for them as a result.

Here is a list categorizing rivens on populatity on ***********7/27/17***********. THIS IS ALL BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE AND CURRENT KNOWLEDGE. I DO NOT CLAIM EVERYTHING TO BE 100% ACCURATE AND TRENDS ARE ALWAYS CHANGING.

SUPER HOT
  • Zenistar
  • Lenz (added 8-12-17, but BEWARE since it is new, we don't know if it will get nerfed and nerfed = rip price)

HOT
  • Scoliac
  • Galatine
  • Atterax
  • Lecta
  • Nikana
  • War

VERY POPULAR
  • Tipedo
  • Orthos
  • Jat Kittag
  • Tigris
  • Ignis
  • Opticor
  • Amprex
  • Aklex

POPULAR
  • Ferrox
  • Penta
  • Sobek
  • Soma
  • Supra
  • Sybaris
  • Zarr
  • Zhuge
  • Boar
  • Kohm
  • Sicarus
  • Pox
  • Twin Grakata
***********UPDATE 9/21/17 LIST IS OUT OF DATE!***********

Speaking in VERY general terms, unrolled trash rivens for super hot category like the zenistar go for 500p-1000+. The hot category cost 300-500p. Rivens in very popular category cost 150-300p and rivens in the popular category cost 50-200p. Of course you can try your luck for a good deal in trade chat. I bought 3 unrolled trash scoliac rivens for 200p each while at the moment they tend to be priced at 300-500p. Remember don't waste your time on unpopular rivens if you want to make platinum!

You may find yourself with a godly riven for an unpopular weapon such as this vulkar riven.
In this case, you'll have to wait and find a buyer who likes the vulkar wraith and it may take a while. This mod took me over 3 months to sell. I talked to the buyer and he loves the weapon. I priced it at only 1k since the target market is so small. Otherwise the mod would be priced higher. But again do not waste your time rolling rivens for unpopular weapons.
RIVEN STATS
Each stat type has a maximum possible roll. However, these stats are boosted with either or both of the following conditions.
  • Only 2 stat types are rolled
  • A negative stat is present
Therefor, optimally a riven has 2 positive stats and a negative OR 3 positive stats and a negative. The negative stat should be a benign negative such as -zoom or a -ammo capacity on opticor. The opticor has super ammo efficiency and -ammo capacity makes no difference while with a weapon with bad ammo efficiency, -ammo capacity may be detrimental. The negative stat all depends on the weapon. If a weapon has a magazine capacity of 1, -mag capacity makes no difference and will still be 1.

For primaries max stats that can be rolled speaking in generalities are:
  • 5 circles +250%
  • 4 circles +200%
  • 3 circles +150-200%
  • 2 circles +100-150%
  • 1 circle +70-100%

For secondaries max stats that can be rolled speaking in generalities are:
  • 5 circles +300-400%
  • 4 circles +250-300%
  • 3 circles +200%
  • 2 circles +150%
  • 1 circle +100%

For melee max stats that can be rolled speaking in generalities are:
  • 5 circles +250%
  • 4 circles +200%
  • 3 circles +150%
  • 2 circles +100%
  • 1 circle +70%

This site [semlar.com]lists exact max stats on each weapon.

Prices on a riven are affected by stat types and how close to max the stats are.

Ideal stat types for critical weapons are:
  • Crit chance
  • Crit damage
  • Raw damage

Ideal stat types for status weapons are:
  • Raw damage
  • Multishot
  • Status chance (for kohm, tigris prime, and boar prime ONLY).

Ideal stats for non-status non-crit weapons (e.g. penta, sobek) are:
  • Raw Damage
  • Multishot

You can tell whether a weapon is crit or status by checking its stats. If the weapon has base crit chance of 25% or above, then its a crit weapon. If the weapon has a base status chance of 25% or above, then its a status weapon. For example, the amprex has a base crit chance of 50% making it a crit monster.

Dual crit mods for crit weapons with high stats can easily go for 2-3k+ while for status type weapons raw damage, multishot, and a benificial third stat like toxin can easily go for 2-3k+ with high stats. If a dual crt mod has crit chance, crit damage, AND multishot, then we're going into the super godly territory, and the mod could be worth 5k+ depending. What makes a benificial third stat depends on the weapon. A safe bet is always an elemental. However, a weapon like opticor benifits greatly from fire rate. Therefor, dual crt stats + fire rate makes an awesome riven for opticor.

Ideal stats for whips (scoliac, atterax, lecta) are:
  • Critical chance on slide attack
  • Range
  • Critical damage
  • Status chance (scoliac ONLY)

Ideal stats for non-whip crit melee weapons are:
  • Critical damage
  • Raw damage
  • Range
  • Other stats unknown/to be determined

Ideal stats for non-whip status melee weapons are:
  • Raw damage
  • Elemental Damage
  • Range
  • Other stats unknown/to be determined

NOTES
  • Generally speaking +critical chance (not slide attacks) for melee weapons aren't very useful because of the mod blood rush.
  • I'm not here to argue what are best stats and mechanics of the game. I'm just telling you what stats will sell well!
PRICING AND HAGGLING
So you got your godly riven, and feelin pretty good right about now. Congrats! Now time to max that profit. The table below lists prices for tiers for primaries and secondaries only. Melee riven prices vary greatly because of the different variations in builds and what buyers intend to do with the weapon. Melee riven prices are not included in the table.

SUPER GOD TIER
5k+ platinum
Crit weapon: +crit chance +crit damage +multishot -good negative
Crit weapon: +crit chance +crit damage +multishot no negative
Crit weapon: +crit chance +crit damage +raw damage -good negative
Crit weapon: +crit chance +crit damage +raw damage no negative
GOD TIER
2-3.5k platinum
Crit Weapon: +crit chance +crit damage +good third stat with - good negative
Status Weapon: +raw damage +multishot +elemental with -good negative
GREAT TIER
500-1.5k platinum
Similar to god tier but lower stats
Crit Weapon: +crit chance +crit damage no good third stat no negative
Crit Weapon: 2 +damage stats(+raw damage, +crit chance, crit damage OR multishot) +good third stat no negative
Crit Weapon: 2 +damage stats(+raw damage, +crit chance, crit damage, OR multishot) no good third stat no negative
Status Weapon: +raw damage +multishot +elemental no negative
Status Weapon: +raw damage +multishot no good third stat no negative
GOOD TIER
250-400 platinum
Crit Weapon: 1 +damage stat(+raw damage, +crit chance, +crit damage, OR +multishot) +elemental -good negative
Crit Weapon: 1 +damage stat(+raw damage, +crit chance, +crit damage, OR multishot) +elemental no negative
Status Weapon: 1 +damage stat(+raw damage OR +multishot) +elemental -good negative
Status Weapon: 1 +damage stat(+raw damage OR +multishot) +elemental no negative
BELOW GOOD TIER
If it doesn't fit any of the descriptions above, it is not worth anything

Example of raw damage is +150 damage and NOT +corpus damage or +toxin damage or any other + _______ damage. Elemental is either cold, toxin, heat, or electricity damage. Do not waste endo and max these rivens. They will be same value max rank or not. You can calculate riven stats without maxing them. Rank 8 stats = Rank 0 stats multiplied by 9. These prices increase with hot rivens!

As you can see, the prices go up somewhat exponentially. The reason being is that the rich people only want the very best rivens. When these rich people like what they see, they are going to compete to get that riven. Sellers often run auctions and spam c/o (current offer). Thats why the prices sky rocket. People who do not have a lot of platinum to spare are going to try to get cheapest price possible. Here is an example of a good tier riven of mine:
It is obviously a good mod, but that's the problem. It's only good. It's missing multishot. Rich people don't want this riven.

There's no real way to price check rivens. I think any given riven can be given a ball park price range. Let's say you have a god tier riven that should be worth 2-3k platinum. Selling high or low in that range depends on your patience. The more patient you are, the more you can wait for a better deal. If you are losing patience then you have to set a lower price point.
THE PROCESS OF PRICE CHECKING DIY
Learn to price check your riven yourself with the help of this guide.

STEP 1
Check table in pricing section. Check which tier your riven falls under.
STEP 2
Check how high your stats are and compare them to maximum possible rolls. The average possible roles are in the stat section. I've also listed a website that lists exact maximum rolls.
STEP 3
Compare your riven against the stat types in the tier section, how well it follows the ideal stat types to have, and how high the riven is compared to maximum possible rolls.
STEP 4
Based on your estimation, place the riven's position within the tier the riven belongs to. For example, if the riven belongs to the great tier category, it will be worth in between 500 and 1.5k. If your riven has low stats and a bad third stat, then it will be placed low within that 500p-1.5k range. And so on and so on..

You should be able to price check the riven yourself pretty easily, IF YOU DO THE WORK!!!
ETIQUETTE
ALWAYS be courteous to potential buyers. Sometimes, buyers can catch an attitude, but that doesn't matter. Always remain polite. I find that serious buyers don't get trolly, and objectively discuss prices. If you remain courteous and patient, you increase the likelihood of a successful transaction. Remember people are paying thousands of platinum. They should be given enough time to think and make a decision.

Yea, I know. That's how it is when it comes to making platinum. There's always trends. Items raise in value and other items lower. Writing guides for other content in the game, they just need to be updated according to any patches, or new content.

For hot items for making platinum its changing and not so simple, that's why i originally wrote the trend section. Because that's what the word connotates, that things will change. That's also why I cannot write what weapons are popular now for riven selling. Because its going to change and be outdated. I wrote up a new section though. I think that should give any readers better direction.

These guides are great, but this one is starting to show its age. You can get a quick/free price check using a bot on a discord server now, so a lot of the work is done for you. However I think the most important thing in this guide is: "If it doesn't fit any of the descriptions above, it is not worth anything" - i.e. there isn't really a market for mediocre rivens. People are going to pay hundreds or thousands or they won't pay at all.
Additionally, only rivens for popular weapons will actually sell. You can have god-tier stats on a riven, but unless it's popular, it won't sell. A more useful guide at this point would be: what weapons are popular right now? The trick is to find a low-cost trash riven for any popular weapon and re-roll it until you have a winner. That's pretty much the entire guide in a sentence.

Hmm not really sure. Soma isn't that popular anymore. You might as well compare similar rivens on riven.market and wftrader.com and see what other people posted.

Also another thing is, for deciding whether to keep rerolling really depends on what you'd be happy with. For me personally, ill reroll until I get something that will either net me a few hundred platinum to thousand +. If its only worth lets say 300p, I'd sell it and buy a fresh unrolled riven, but that really depends on the price of an unrolled riven. Some unrolled rivens sell for as much as 600p if the weapon is that hot. In the case of synpase, fresh rivens should only be going for 50p max.

Pretty much mainstream is always going to look for direct +damage stats. Punch thru is + damage but more situational. It's a great mod for personal use, but for sale it will take longer to sell, since punchthru is not specifically sought after often. There might be exceptions for specific weapons when it comes to punchthru, though I can't really think of any off top of my head.

Synapse used to be hot right after its buff because its an awesome weapon, but it's probably not that hot anymore. I'm not sure on its prices, since I haven't been heavily trading lately. You can check riven.market and wftrader.com to compare your riven to similar rivens.
destiny manifest 30 JUL 2018 a las 8:57 p. m.
and is punch through something that is considered desirable for beam weapons like the synapse or is it more of a niche preference?
destiny manifest 30 JUL 2018 a las 8:55 p. m.
Synapse Critanok
+3.2 punch through
+204.6% critical chance

23 rerolls in, should I keep going?
how much is this worth?
what's best to get on the synapse?
thanks man!

you never want -multishot. So its worth nothing. Multishot is a very power stat type. On top of that barely anyone uses viper.
