It's not the original Subnatica and nothing ever will be. If you understand that before playing for the first time you will LOVE this game. It stands as an amazing game in it's own right. It's not trying to be the original and that's not a bad thing. Below zero expands and changes the concepts of the original Subnatica. It doesn't make you feel as desolate with the addition of AI characters (including one very close to yourself, no spoilers). The world is even prettier than the original but feels much safer and more alive (albeit still horrifying). It does a great job at expanding on the original story while still staying true to the world created in the first game. The playable map IS smaller than the original but it's much more dense and alive. Some of the old vehicles have made a return with some new/improved ones. The base building has been expanded with lots more personalization in the form of posters, jukeboxes and trinkets. There is a moderate focus on the above ground sections of the map which are done moderately well (much better than you'd expect for a submarine game!). Overall it's a really good game and I don't have any major gripes. The most important thing is to go into it with an open mind; not expecting "just another subnatica". In my opinion it's well worth the full price and if you enjoyed the first game it's definitely worth picking up.

- More rich, "alive" world
- Lore rich expansion to the original story, with "side" elements included
- New vehichles/mechanics
- Addition of character AI
- More base personalization
- Less tedious end game
- Decent play time (depending on how you play)
- A new take on what subnatica "could be"
- Interesting and immersive dialog

Cons
- Objectively smaller playable map
- Less desolate, thalassophobic world
- Somewhat shorter than the original
- Not the same original (though I feel that's a good thing and nothing will be able to capture what you felt the first time you played the original)
- Snowfox sucks

In conclusion it's definitely worth a play and full price, IF you don't expect it to capture that original feeling you first felt when you played the original. If you want MORE Subnatica and are willing to go into it with an open mind and experience the game for what it does well in it's own right, then this is the game for you. If you just want another original Subnatica and that same lonely thalassophobic feeling then maybe wait for a sale or steer clear altogether

Very very short as it's a work in progress but I feel even for the 30 mins gameplay I got it was worth it. Combat is super smooth and graphics are comfy.
