Early Access Review
This has the potential to be the most fun Tower Defense game ever.

The idea of making your path using blocks with boosts on them and placing them strategically - why hasn't it been done before? This is brilliant!

I can't wait until the full game is released and I hope there are many DLCs as well.

Over 500 hours played and a year since I last played, I just reinstalled the game. Civ 5 is life.

Last Dream: World Unknown is an ambitious game. It is a sequel to Last Dream, a game that if it were released on the Super Nintendo, would have been as highly regarded as Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger, in my humble opinion.

One thing that stood out to me is the balance. There are 6 difficulty levels, from very easy to legendary, and they are extremely well balanced. Since you can import your characters from Last Dream, or have the option of starting a new high level party, balance is extremely important. I wouldn't have expected a sequel to be so challenging and the level progression to work so smoothly, but it does.

As you level, you get abilities that grow progressively stronger, and your equipment grows with you, and the best part is, every 5 levels or so, you FEEL that much stronger. That's when you know a game has got level progression right.

There are a LOT of places to explore. Some are required by the story, but many quests, such as the class-specific quests, and some dungeons are entirely optional. You can help yourself by completing these side areas, or you can plow through the game without them.

What is unique about the side areas is that they can help you on your main quest. You have the option of finding climbing gear which helps significantly when climbing the mountain during the main quest, you can recruit a certain army to help fight for you, or you can ignore them. Really cool.

The dungeons in the game show some real map-making and puzzle making ability. Some of them are a little too hard, but the game always allows you shortcuts if you find yourself stuck, such as paying gold for a goblin to guide you, or finding a map of the sacred tree caves since it is somewhat confusing. One particular dungeon has the floors of the dungeon moving with levers, and it was fun trying to solve that one. Luckily there is an extensive 900+ page strategy guide full of maps
The developers are constantly on the forum and updating the game, fixing any bugs that pop up. They are very much in love with making these games, and it shows. There are a huge number of NPCs and books with text lines that add to the world, but aren't part of the main story. The developers are also supposed to be coming out with Last Dream II in a few years.

Finally, there are a load of achievements in the game. It was a lot of fun collecting 100% of achievements, and now there are speed running competitions, where the developers will pay you real money and allow you to create characters or tombstones within the game to those with the fastest times.

Summary: A great RPG in lines with old school final fantasy. Lots of achievements, lots of replay value with 8 classes. Speed running competitions are a lot of fun with rewards such as in game characters. Lots of places to explore and super bosses to beat, I highly recommend if you love old school RPGs.

What can I say, wow!

I highly recommend this game for anyone who enjoyed the NES and SNES era of RPGs. If you are a person who has bought several versions of final fantasy games, enjoy customizing characters and seeking out rare treasures to make your party incredibly powerful, or are a trophy hunter who enjoys a serious challenge to collect all achievements, this is the game for you.

This game is a polished experience of the classic RPG. If this game had come out 20 years ago, you would be having debates on whether Last Dream belongs in the top 3 RPGS along with Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger. The graphics are cheerful and colorful, and the music is a collection of great classical pieces, and you will find yourself humming along, and even recognizing many of them, and feeling cooler for doing so!

While I beat the game within 40 hours the first time, the achievements added 100+ hours of replay-ability. You see, there are around a hundred achievements, some of which can't be completed in one playthrough. You have to do multiple playthroughs, and it took me some serious planning, but I managed to get them all done in 3 playthroughs. It is single-handedly the most fun achievement hunting I have ever done in a game.

I look forward to Last Dream Expansion and Last Dream II.
