I love this game. I do. It's one of the best co-op shooters of this decade. We even managed to secure it from the hands of corporate greed! ♥♥♥♥ you Sony, our managed Democracy exists in spite of your greed!

If you like card building roguelites, you're in for a treat. Wonderful gameplay, visuals, and general theme. The storyline is great too—something most other card building games lack. If modding support and more content are added, this game has the potential to go miles.

I rarely play FPS games these days. COD and other shooters like R6 Siege have burned me out pretty bad. But Friends vs Friends? I was hesitant at first, but this game has quickly become one of my favourites. The slower time to kill and low recoil make gunplay incredibly enjoyable; it's a refreshing take on most modern shooters where the one who shoots first wins. The cardplay is another fun aspect—despite how broken some of the cards feel on paper, they don't feel that unfun to play against in game, and really spice things up. The game balance in general feels very good, which is surprising given how many triple A games release with near unplayable multiplayer experiences these days.

10/10 would recommend

Angel's Gear is not a bad game by any means, but don't think it justifies a price tag over $10. As far as metroidvania's go, it's incredibly short (I made this review at 3 hours, and that's all it took to complete the entire game), and contains little to no replay value. The first half of the game is completely linear, and although the second half is better, it still boils down to choosing which bosses to fight in which order. Most of the major upgrades are found in the first linear half of the game, and the rest are hardly relevant.

There's no puzzles in this metroidvania, and only 2 upgrades (I suppose 3 but the Id elevator doesn't feel worth counting) that actually open new areas. Most the time the game will just put a wall up to block you from accessing areas that you shouldn't get to yet, which is a major step back compared to other metroidvanias. The big sell of this game boils down to two things: the combat, and the story.

The combat is...it could be better. You have extreme knockback on getting hit, which immediately ruins tempo in a fight and just feels unfun to play with. Most of the enemies themselves are okay, but the bosses (especially the final one) are poorly designed. Reason being is that once you get the Id upgrade with access to the shotgun, you can very often just facetank a boss and fill them full of lead. Although some bosses have instant kills to prevent this, it's still far too easy to do. The final boss is especially bad for this—I killed him on my first try just by facetanking his attacks. Having access to 3 full heals is way too much, and cheapens combat in a bad way.

The story is the strongest part of this game. It's interesting, and some of the characters are compelling (Milly is especially well done—she's likable, has clear character motivations, and has a neat character design), but the game is just too short. 3 hours is barely enough time to get to know anyone, and makes it feel like relationships are developing faster than they realistically should.

My final gripe is that the protagonist is barely a character. He's a silent protagonist, but in the worst way possible. The game starts with some minor development, and this climaxes in the Id fight, but after they they may as well be a hollow shell. They don't talk, and they don't interact with anyone in a way that shows that they're even alive. In addition, his origins really don't make sense. He's just some guy. Some soldier. And after the world ends, he follows the commands of some motley (although lovable) band of monsters without question. There's bigger games (such as Hollow Knight) that also have silent protagonists, but they very often develop their characters without them directly talking, and that hardly happens here. (The short playtime certainly isn't doing them any favours, either).

In the end, I can only recommend this game if you really, REALLY need a metroidvania to play right this instant. It's passable for a few hours, but beyond that Angel's Gear is a metroidvania which is too short, too underdeveloped, and barely worth the price of admission.

The artstyle is absolutely beautiful. If nothing else, this game is pure eye candy.

The gameplay itself is quite good. Hack 'n slash, with a few spells and an RPG-esqu upgrade system. It's simple, effective, and fun. Executes the 'less is more' idea quite well, although the combat was a bit easier than I'd prefer (the I-frames for the dodge roll are quite generous). Not necessarily a bad thing, however, as the easier combat system will certainly appeal to a broader and more casual audience. Besides one exception, I'm quite a big fan of the boss design as well. The bosses in the game have some creative gimmicks, and although again a bit on the easier side, they were far from boring.

The game is a bit short, but definitely well worth the price imo. Fantastic visuals, simple yet effective and enjoyable gameplay, and a storyline that is compelling yet also simple and well done. Lots of fun!

Also, crow gaming.

If you've ever enjoyed metroidvanias, this is game is a must buy. Even if you haven't, the game is so much of a masterpiece for less than $20 that I would still buy it anyway. Amazing gameplay, amazing story, amazing artstyle, and it runs on pretty much anything.

I enjoyed the game. Keep in mind that I'm no XCOM veteran; this was the first XCOM game I've ever played, but I can say it's definitely worth the price tag, at least coming from the perspective of someone who is unfamiliar with the series. Graphics, optimization, and general game stability were all good, no problems there either.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and worldbuilding this game had. I suppose that's no surprise as I'm a big fan of the Mass Effect series, but I still thought this game had some good narrative moments, even it still pales in comparison to the likes of something like a Mass Effect game.

Overall I recommend it, and If you've ever played Mass Effect series I daresay you'll love it.

If you've ever been interested in turn based games, then this'll be a treat for you. Absolutely fantastic combat, atmosphere, and general replay value. Has a very active modding community, and it's not even that expensive! The only thing I'll warn you about is the difficulty:

It's the dark souls of turn based combat. Deaths are permanent, failure is punishing, and the game doesn't pull punches, and if you don't like that, be aware! Personally, I'm a huge fan of the difficulty, as it's like a spice to an already splendid soup: it adds a kick to a fantastic meal that just leaves you coming back for more.

Early Access Review
Probably one of the best 4v1 horror games out there, despite being in early access. Like most 4v1 horror games, the learning curve is especially steep for beginners, and this will turn a lot of people away from the game, but if you do stick around it truly is a gem to hold on to.

This game is only in early access too, which means the full release will probably be even better!
