Early Access Review
All my pro's and con's as follows;

I like the game but it does have some political tones to it. Not going to take sides, but it has an unrealistic romance system where EVERYONE wants the main character. Also non-binary is a select-able gender in the game. I really liked how BG2 was more selective with romances, and interactions with npc's based on what class your character is, if your character is male or female, their race/species of humanoid, I wish this game had that.

Game play wise, it is turn based rather than seamless game play with pauses like BG2. I always played BG2 on hard, so I basically paused for turns anyway, so this new system saves me time in that one.

For a non-DND player, not sure if I like the class set up's more or less vs BG2. I definitely like character creation less, I liked doing the random rolls, or random rolling to make a super stat character for a play through. The additional options for background and making your character more geared toward specific classes is pretty cool though. I really hope to see some background stories ingame like BG2 had.

The addition of many actions like push, throw, being able to interact with the environment like freezing water on the ground to make enemies trip, or electrocute it to make it an AOE attack is freaking awesome.

Detect traps is annoying, if your whole team fails the check, they just don't notice it. In BG2 you could set your thief to detect traps, and if you moved slow enough you would eventually notice traps. BG3 system seems to be a single check per character then your f'd if you failed them all, so even if you establish a pattern like... there are 3 traps on the left side of the sarcophagus, and you find 2 mirroring on the right side, but fail a perception check on the 3rd. I think you should be able to stand there for a bit looking for it, and find it because it just makes sense.

Over all I like the game, and I have high hopes for it being a good sequel to BG2. It definitely has room for mods/DLC's to give more options, which I am sure will happen.

AFTER BEATING FULL RELEASE ~ MINOR SPOILERS BELOW

Still like the game, and really like the environmental mechanics implemented. I can see why they had to do the level cap at 12 for the initial release, I am still not liking how everyone wants to hook up with the main character regardless of race/class/alignment(kinda), and that its more about speech options. I do wish you could go back to old areas and free travel a bit more like BG2, and more sideline quests would be awesome. Competing with BG2 is tough, it had a TON of side quest material that was just lore based, and really added more of a feel to "the world". I do acknowledge that BG2 was far less graphic and script heavy, I mean I have no idea how much work it takes to design the npc's to use their abilities and effect the environment to their advantage.... but I imagine it was a LOT of work. That said, I don't think it should get anyone to not play the game, I think their will be a lot of expansions that give more to the story, higher level caps, and let players get more immersed with the lore of "the world".

There are still some minor bugs in the game for sure, but over all it was pretty darn smooth for a fresh release. I am really looking forward to DLC's, that expand on this story, and hopefully add more closure to the ending... which sadly gives major mass effect 3 vibes... just so little closure to all the many story's in the game.

That said... what about a BG1/BG2 reboot? I'd kill to play those games with this level of detail and immersion.

Very open game with a lot of choices and play styles to choose from. The game developers do a great job at keeping the game interesting and interactive via "community goals" that effect the overall universe in the game.

Start doing solo games, and just go into the busy area's and learn how to fight well in this system. Then team games are a lot of fun.

Total war has been a great series and I was very excited for a fantasy version of it. It's storyline feels just like other total war games when you try and "dominate" the world, which was cool by me. The few big points that make me say this game is majorly not worth it are:

1 - Insane cost for the game, which by the way if you want to play a campaign type in war hammer 2, you must own war hammer 1. So if you add up all the content in this game that is locked based on other software you must purchase to utilize or play as other factions or access the other campaign type you must spend about 200 bucks. With the following points in mind, I do not feel that price point is realistic for the quality of the game.

2 - Naval combat. If your ship is intercepted by another ship in the MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN. Your armys fight a land battle, on imaginary land that doesn't exist anywhere near your location. Naval combat in general does not exist, but your commanders get perks for fighting at sea? wtf... I'd gladly trade this game for total war: Napoleon in a heart beat just because of how BADLY this corner was cut.

3 - Lack of diplomatic imagination and options. So what because I am a dark elf I cannot get the other evil races to join my confederation? pffft seriously guys, if your going to charge ABOVE top dollar for a game, you need to bring the content and flexability expected for a game that sets the bar.

4 - Different battle field conditions. Only variable between battle fields is in topographic layout, and in how much "winds of power" you start with. Other total war games took into account fire, rain, wind, dryness. Come on guys, your charging a LOT more, but giving soooooo much less then you did before.
