Love it, great lil game

Massive fan of homeworld and I must say that this doesnt feel like a Homeworld game, I remember reading a few reviews and one stated that if it had not had the name Homeworld 3 it would probably be loved, and I agree.

Before reading the rest I want whoever reads this to know that I've not completed the campaign as of yet and this review is only focused on the singleplayer and the new roguelike gamemode, there are no spoilers.

In short, the art and the graphical part of the game is fantastic, absolutely amazing, the art department have done an excellent job on the visuals, vfx and 3D models. However the ingame cinematics and animations feel very uncanny, a lot of the animations feel off and not fitting for a homeworld game. I honestly wished that they kept the 2D artwork cinematics they had in the old titles, or even the 2.5D (with lack of a better term) of Deserts of Kharak, a small thing to cry about but it just makes the game feel like a generic sci fi story and not a part of the homeworld story, the storytelling feels very weird and I wouldn't feel invested in the story had the game not had the title of Homeworld.

The combat feels way too fast for a Homeworld title, and the roguelike gamemode, which name escapes me, feels way, WAY too fast for a homeworld game, and was one of the reasons I was hyped for HW3. The removal of sub-systems on ships feels like such a letdown and was a large part of why the original games felt interesting. One of the most annoying and terrible parts of the game however is that you do not hypedrive when you're ready yourself after a campaign mission, a small part of the older games feels like such a downgrade in this installment of the franchise.

In the end a large part of why I enjoy the Homeworld franchise is because of the fantastic storytelling, interesting space combat and amazing singleplayer experience the first two games (not including Cataclysm tho that is on my ToDo list) are.

If you are looking for a homeworld experience look elsewhere, go play Homeworld remastered. If you are looking for a more generic space combat game this is a good game for you but I would still recommend the older Homeworld titles.

Damn, good game

This game is worthy to be called Total war: Warhammer 3, fantastic game and a nice story aswell.

Must say however that I dislike the choice of green as an outliner for the units, and hope that someone makes a mod that removes it. Anyhow I love the daemon prince customisation and the faction chaos undivided be hella fun

Good game, potato farming fun

Fantastic game, got it for cheaps and recommend it highly. But for your own sanity id recommend a controller for this one

One of the best games out there, a fantastic addition to total war and a fantastic warhammer game, shame that GW is not a nice company these days. Hopefully it'll get better.
