I had seen this game played before and knew I would enjoy it. However, I was pleasantly surprised by just how much I enjoyed it and how much I continued to want to play it again and again. I can't wait to see their next game!

This game has really improved in the last year, and it seems like the developers might finally have the momentum to finish this game. There are still things that can be added and improved, but this game is great in its current state and well worth the price tag.

I have given this game more time and another chance. I have still left my original review below. So while ive played the game more and understand it more, I still have many problems with it. Mainly I have issues with overall design choices in the game. I hope some of these things will change, such as only cougars giving sinew, but these things have been this way for over a year. I am doubtful they will change. I fear much of my dislike is not just an EA thing but a decision that the developer stands behind. Overall, its a decent game if you get past the frustrations of it. That being said, there are other survival games that I much prefer to play, i.e. 7 days to die.

I think this game could be good; however, simple things are a chore. I expect in most survival games to start out with the basics and to have to collect to build more basics and slowly expand from there. This being said, I don't expect to have to spend 10 or so minutes running around trying to find random crates, catch chickens, and harvesting trees just to make 1 or 2 arrows. Yes, something so basic that most survival games let you fairly easily craft, can take 10 or so minutes just for a couple. This is to me is way too much. It seems the early game is way too unbalanced and unfun. Why do I have to find random crates with nails to make arrows? Who even makes arrows with nails? There are rocks all over the ground. Why can't I use rocks to make arrows like everyone else since the dawn of time? Simple things dont make sense in this game. I know I've ranted about the arrows, but they are far from the only early game struggle. I don't mind the early game being difficult, but this borders absurd. At the time of this review I haven't played this game much because I am frustrated and uninterested in its tediums. I will attempt to give this game another chance at a later date and will change my review if I feel it deserves it.

Fun, simple game. Its biggest issue is status ailments. If you dont constantly keep a potion in your hand to remove poisin or some other debuff you will lose. It slows down gameplay and makes things less of a challenge and more of a nuissance.

Would give this a sideways thumb if I could.

10/10 would listen to a whaling song again.

F***ing addictive as $h1t. This game is incredibly fun and very replayable. Even though the amount of content right now in early access isn't extensive, its more than enough to keep you playing over and over. Excited to see how the rest of the game develops and to see what else is added. Well worth the full price.

Coop and single player are both highly enjoyable. Great purchase.

Screw this imbalanced garbage. If you lose field control for 1 turn, the game is over. There is no coming back because your units die on the field before you can do anything with them. Have more spells instead you say? Sure, then when your opponent instead has more creatures, you will run out of spells and they will still overpower you. Cant recommend this game until a balance is found. Otherwise most games are decided by turn 3 or 4 max.

Then to top things off I wondered why I was struggling in the arena.... until I started noticing I was being matched with rank 2 players when I am at rank 29.... (lowest rank is 30, top is 1). So yea, I'm one rank from the bottom because I just started and I am matched with one of the top players.

No balance, No matchmaking. I get that its early access but matchmaking ranks isn't difficult....

Excellent prison management game and one of the best games to come out of early access. Plus they set what should be the standard on how early access works by coming out with constant, consistent updates and even saving a few extra features for the full release.

Extremely frustrating difficulty level. There either needs to be an option for difficulty setting or the difficulty needs to scale better. 9/10 you'll find yourself outmatched from the start and your only hope is to run, get some pop shots, run and repeat. I have yet to make it out of the first map area after trying almost 10 times. I saw other people report on this, but those were early access reviews so I had hoped it had been fixed. It clearly has not. I would probably recommend this game if it weren't for this insane difficulty.


EDIT: The developers listened to the community and have made the game easier. So far I have only played just over halfway through 1 run, but it has definitely been a more enjoyable experience. I look forward to playing this game further and trying out different fleet combinations and ship abilities. Also, I now recommend this game rather than turn it down.
