I have been a Total War player since the beginning ( Shogun). I have played every game in the series and even though they had flaws, I enjoyed them all. I have always tried to look at games with an objective point of view as they aren't ever going to deliver everything to please everybody. That is just not realistic.

Now, with that being said, this game hasn't been the best in the series and to be honest it might fall into the category of bing at the bottom of the list. That doesn't mean that is a bad game, it's not! It has some wiggles to work out and some features that were removed should be reconsidered to be put back in. I agree with another reviewer that "streamlining" doesn't seem to mesh with the type of player who enjoys Total War games. I strongly believe that most players prefer a detail oriented game that has a plethora of features. Some micro management is good right? Although some things warrant streamlining to cut down on the chores, but that needs to be compensated with additions of story building or things that add richness to detail. The freedom to choose your destiny should be the order of the day...sometimes streamlining limits ones ability to "build" their story of conquest.

Ok, so I think ToB is a good game, not great, not bad, but kind of average. I do admit that after playing it a while it left me a little bored. That doesn't mean I won't buy another Total War game, I will! It also doesn't mean that I will throw my keyboard against the wall and act as if I was betrayed for not making an awesome game...I won't. I think players who review games need to be more objective...we see it on Metacritic.....0/10 or 10/10. Seriously, I don't think it is quite fair to rate a game 0/10 because the developers omitted a feature or because they used a different color than what was historically accurate. We just need to take a breath and look at things more objectively.

I think these postings are an opportunity for the developers to see what worked and what didn't and if you use reason and rationale, then they are more apt to implement those thinsg we all desire. So for that reason, I am rating this game as a B-. It is a start of a new type of catergory of Total War games and being the first Saga, I feel that we should roll up our sleeves and offer constructive criticism and support creative and thoughful changes so every time they produce a game it is just that much better.

49 year old gamer

***Update*** Since I played it last....maybe 13 hours total...I just haven't wanted to play it. One thing that I found annoying was that your armies and settlements all had a similar campaign map icon and to be honest...it was kind of an eye sore looking at the map. CA, better luck next game, but I am sorry to say I uninstalled this one. I still support you guys, but this one fell kind of short.

I have put in a few hours already to this DLC and have to say it is one of the best CA has put out for a total war game. I feel like they have found their stride in giving gamers what they want in regards to content. I fall into the trap after dropping $60 for a game and then hesitate when they release DLC close to $20, but I have to say, this one is worth it. It adds a lot of different mechanics and game dynamics that warrants the price. If you like Total War Warhammer, then do yourself a favor and go ahead and grab this, its like playing a fresh new game.

Now, I also want to add something that bothers me. When this game released and there was an hour delay I saw the childish and immature nature of a certain percentage of our gaming community. Seriously guys, a steam delay had nothing to do with Creative Assembly...it really is a sad thing to see people punish the game creator when all they needed to do was be patient. Then the negative nellies reared their ugly head. We see them everytime...complaining about crashes or bugs or whatever...again those childish behaviors need to be addressed. I saw a pattern of negative review bombing and frankly as an adult and long time gamer, I was ashamed of the behavior that has become prevelant.

I am not one to stir up arguments, but I am beginning to believe that reasonable people should voiuce their opinions objectively and when someone downvotes a game because their hardware isnt up to snuff or there is a one hour delay...Then I think it is everyones responsibility to respond and comment regarding their behavior. They won't learn unless others point out the immaturity.

Now, back to something fun....Early in teh game I had a full stack Tomb King army doing its thing...exp[anding my lands....upgrading my cities....took out a skaven nest and was feeling good about myself, resting near ruins licking my wounds and letting my army replenish itself...even Skellies need a rest right?.....then it happened! Amushed by those damn Lizardmen.....eff you you dang Frog on a hoverboard.

Sifting through a pile of bones leftover from the good ole days....10 out 10

This free DLC adds so much to the game...it is actually quite crazy how many Lords and factions you can play...talk about a sandbox!

*Update....with Tomb Kings and now Curse of the Vampires Coast....TWW2 is killing it!*

I am an older gamer and unfortunately as much as I would have loved to have done so, I chose to work today. I have only been able to put in a couple hours so far. But I eagerly gobbled up the reviews and snippets of info from the release of this second installment of Total War Warhammer 2. I have to say, they have really redefined how a Total War game can be developed. The first installment was a well put together game with lots of options and opened the door to rping your way through a rts/turn based game by using fantasy elements to create a unique and masterful game.

This second installment has raised the bar by incorporating story driven elements and injecting little bits of lore in all the right places. The freedom we grew accustomed to when playing previous Total War titles has not been lost. They have been enhanced by combining elements of fantasy that not only have rejuvinated life in the Total War series, but also by encouraging new players to join the ranks.

This second installment is a great addition to the series and when they incorporate the combined map campaign, this will set the bar even higher!

I am truly excited to see what the developers do to incorporate successful elements of creativity and richness to the historical TW games coming in the future.

Seriously, if you are on the fence as an old time TW fan who has been fearful of dipping your toes in a Total War Fantasy themed game.....Jump IN! If you are a potential new player and never have touched a total war game....Take a chance on this...Seriously, I think you will thank yourself.

*update*...Only four hours in and I can't stop touching myself....seriously...this game is exceeding my expectations!

I had my finger on the trigger to buy this game. Watched many videos and had decided it was for me, until this price hike right before the steam summer sale.....I thought Paradox was above this cheesy/slimy sales tactic that resembles cheesy used car sales salesman. Sees the glint of Paradox's gold pinky ring and pencil thin mustache. No thanks!

Early Access Review
I realize this game is in alpha....unfortunately, It has been in alpha for a very long time...3 years maybe?. The bad part about that, is that this game has had very few updates and much of what made the game so well liked...was removed. I deleted a while back out of frustration and came back because I had hoped it had improved. Unfortunately, it hasn't. Believe me, I gave it a try....but seeing every door wide open.....no food to be found, yet guns laying everywhere....and who else is tired of those damn motorcycle helmets...odd huh? I hardly ever saw a zombie at all. But what killed me was the fact that even though I was all geared up...I walked through a pond and ended up dying of being cold and hungry....nice! Then to find that the original creator moved on to other projects....this was No Man's sky's older brother that nobody talked about. Do yourself a favor....think twice about supporting games in Alpha...although some do it well...also if you are so excited over a game, do your homework and see how others are experiencing it. I should have...:(

Update...just stopped in to see you and check to see if you are alright. I know it has been tough since DayZ died. If you need a little extra cash....oh wait...my extra cash went to supporting Dayz...too bad it died..:(

Update 06/19/18 : Called you up to see how you were doing....discovered you still suck ass. Losing your number this time.

I know some had issues when this game was released. I was fortunate enough to not have any issues from day one. I consider myself lucky and in no way discount what others experienced, but I wanted to say that I have put in pver 300 hours into this game and just recently took advantage of sales and acquired all of the DLC. I admit most of it was overpriced and that should be addressed by the community. Now, the amount of hours should suggest that I thought this game was good. It was and still is! I think they could have added some features that made it more richly detailed, but all in all, I think it was a worthy successor to the original Rome. So, if you are entertaining the idea of picking this game up and giving it a try....go ahead...I think you will like it!

Update 07/28/2018: I have to say that I keep coming back to this game. It is chock full of stuff and the amount of mods in the workshop is just crazy good! The DLC that have been released and of course the Rise of the Republic DLC out in a few days tend to be a bit pricey, but I have to say the amount of time and enjoyment I spend with these games, I am willing to pay a little extra to support future development of Total War games. Go ahead dip your toes in...it feels great..:P
