I never leave reviews, so this is my first negative one.

I wanted to play all Arkham games and DLC in order of release date and although I saw it had a mixed reception, I still went for it. You see, sometimes a game with a mixed reception can still at least be enjoyable or it can be something like a guilty pleasure.

But man this game...

It started out alright, I'm not a fan of 2.5D, because the gameplay can be confusing. What I mean by that is that you sometimes forget that your character can take a turn to an area not seen on the camera directly and then you... basically contemplate about how you ended up in that area. Also figuring out where to go on the map to get to where you want to go is the equivalent of a Riddler puzzle in the normal Arkham games. Which is really annoying, since later in the game, they really let you jump through hoops with that. (Not that I don't like Riddler puzzles.)

The story is what kept me going for a while, but at one point I just... wanted it to end. It has seriously been a long time ago that I was SO BORED. I had this feeling of agony while playing. And then it was like it didn't want to end. But it did, luckily.

Seriously though, I think the extra lore I guess (I don't know if it's actually canon) was interesting, but I really had to push through. I honestly feel like I wasted too much time and rather (for the first time in my life) just watched a walkthrough on youtube of it.

The freeflow combat in this game was not that great. Since Batman decides which enemy to hit for you, you lose you're combo really fast. Also I consider myself at least capable in the combat (I already played Asylum, City and Origins), so I think the counters don't always work as well. In the beginning it's alright, but after getting to the enemies with stun baton and knives it's just a chore. Literally like you have to take out the trash or something.

Seeing I'm kind of an achievement hunter, this is one of those games that will probably go on the Wall of Shame.

I sincerely hope you're already into 2.5D before getting into this.

For everyone else, just no.

This game is why I am into horror games. Especially with friends, very entertaining. Alone, however, nerve-racking!
