Define it how you will but to me this game is pay to win and here's why:

- $10 a month to get a few cards to get 'in the door' (these cards are not available without purchase and can sometimes be overpowered like zabu/surfer which were nerfed shortly after their seasons were over) is often what you need just to 'compete.'

- Currencies are vague and confusing to new players.

- Buying packages to get credits (the main currency) and tokens (currency to buy targeted cards) to become a whale greatly increases (CL) rank and gains exclusive access to latest top tier meta and thus a significant advantage over others.

- The matchmaking system is anything but transparent and what a surprise it frequently matches whales against free players and not just other whales regardless of rank.

The game itself is very fun and it's a shame they've taken the playbook from other predatory 'free to play'/deckbuilder/gacha games because I would love it otherwise.

Admittedly the scales are not as blatantly weighted towards big spenders as other games (like Diablo Immortal) and you may find yourself occasionally winning against very powerful decks but IMO this is more often due to the high amount of RNG/luck landing in your favor than anything else.

I would 1000x over buy a game like Slay the Spire before spending a single penny on a game like this.

'Rogue-like dungeon crawler' is accurate... but I don't normally like games that fit that description.

What is different about this game is that, while it is a bit difficult, I feel like it's really hit that sweet spot in the difficulty curve where you know you have no one to blame but yourself when you die. This is because the controls are butter smooth and very responsive and gameplay feels well plotted while the enemies are numerous but fair. You won't approach combat with an apathetic faceroll manuever but you also don't need to die repeatedly to understand it's mechanics.

The artwork is pleasing and the music is unexpectedly relaxing.

The only cons I've noticed are that there are quite a few skills that feel unbalanced or useless, like they're just fluff. Also that it doesn't take long to begin to feel repeatative, although that is common in this genre and it's definitely not so bad that you can't justify the purchase.

I think for the price it's definitely worth it, in fact I'd say it's a bargain.
