A new standard for rogue-lite style games. A fantastic, story driven experience that has the mechanics of the game built in and justified by the story. Characters, as standard of Supergiant games, are all wonderfully drawn, voice acted, and realized into the world. The game play is also very tight and responsive and every run feels quite fresh. If you like rogue like games, please do yourself a favor and buy Hades.

Edit:
It has been another 30ish hours since my last review. Here's the thing, the game is still good. What makes it good is not so much the gameplay (which is still very fun and engaging, don't get me wrong here), but is the storylines and the characters. Never has a rogue-like game (I've played many-a-rogue-like), hooked me through the STORY of all things. Honestly, I love this game, and I sincerely hope you give it a try. I think you'll fall in love with it too.

If you liked top down, loot driven ARPGs but found the other offerings to be too shallow. This game is for you. It has a deep build system and a variety of mechanics that keeps the game fresh. Builds are diverse, with many unique items to potentially build around but with plenty of ways to play even with bad RNG. If you wanted a deeper, more engaging Diablo III, please give this game a try.

The Good:
The moment to moment gameplay is quite good. Rounds go by fast and it never get stale. Characters are colorful and unique and all have great personality to them (though Blossom is really annoying).

The Bad:
The game balance needs a lot of work. currently games are dominated by 3 or 4 heroes. Some of the heroes feel extrordinarily more powerful than some of the others making some heroes entiely pointless to play.

The Ugly:
The most painful thing to see in this game is the loot boxes. While it is free to play, I personally do not see that as an excuse to put a predatory monetization scheme in a place where the psudo-gambling can be experienced by children. I detest loot boxes as a practice and generally do not support them in any game.

Summary:
This game has potential. The characters do legitimately feel unique and the gameplay is quite good. With some good balancing and a change in monetization scheme, there is potential for a real strong game here. However, as is, and on principle. I cannot recommend this game to anyone.

A beautiful game with a powerful theme. Really drives you to think about the nature of video games and violence and challenges stereotypes of video gaming and encourages you to go against your inclination and habits of gaming. Really deserves a look if you haven't already!

After sinking a fair amount of time into it, I can safely say that this game is FANTASTIC. The gameplay is a mix of Assassin's Creed's stealth with Arkam City's combat system, and the story is just alright. But what sets this game apart is the Nemesis System, which easily turns this pretty formulaic game into a deep, satisfying, and addicting experience. They do alot of other things right, such as voice acting, balancing with the RPG elements, and the smoothness of the combat, but really the star here is the Nemesis System. Please, if you have not played this game, it is 100% worth the buy.

Fantastic game! Hard but fair, this game is all about learning mechanics and using your play style to survive this world. The atmosphere is rich and the story is riveting. Ultimately the gameplay is engrossing and satisfying when successful. Be warned, this game is NOT easy, but that is the draw to the game, the satisfaction of success is far greater when the challenge is hard. Lovers of the first game and newbies alike should really try this if you enjoy challenging and deep RPG's with amazing story and atmosphere.
