I put over 150 hours into this game and now I can't access the DLC that I paid for? Oh ♥♥♥♥ YOU.

In short? An adorable, but tedious grindfest that's front-loaded with intriguing cutscenes that ultimately don't deliver on their promise.

I was immediately intrigued by this game after playing the demo during a Steam Demo Fest. I liked the idea of running a gas station in this town full of mysteries. It felt like a gas station simulator by way of Twin Peaks or Eerie Indiana (anyone else grow up on THAT show?)

Unfortunately, the game is INCREDIBLY front-loaded with intrigue, but turns into nothing more than a tedious grind. You're left running around the lot serving customers, very occasionally graced with NPC dialogue that seemingly moves the story forward, but most day-to-day actions are refilling stock, refueling gas, and performing mind-numbing, tedious mini-games. There simply isn't enough story bait on the hook to justify this much grind. It's also incredibly unintuitive on what you need to do to progress. At one point, you open a secret bunker with a code that seems to want you to have 150 points total across two point systems. But it seems to want a specific combination of those two to fill two bars. Then you're running back and forth between the bunker and up top, changing your gas station layout to see what works and what doesn't and it's all such a dull, back and forth grind when it would have been simpler for the game to let you unlock and TELL you what actually needs to be done.

Further into the game, you unlock two areas, which gave me hope there'd be more to do or more places to visit. Unfortunately, once you unlock said areas, have a bit of dialogue with the area's respective NPC, there is nothing - NOTHING - else to do with it. It's a perfect example of what this game constantly does: tease you with new things, but then never actually delivering.

I hate leaving a negative review because I WANTED to like this game. But the game does not live up to the promise the demo teased. It's just an endless string of chores and mystery teases and it's all just a tedious grind to get there.

This has to be one of the least intuitive control mechanics I've ever encountered in a platformer. I don't understand all the positive reviews for this.

It's a charming game, but the controls are incredibly unintuitive. It seems like the developer made this with a keyboard in mind and only lazily included gamepad controls. There are some remapping options, but it's slapdash at best.

While you can see I put a fair amount of hours into this, I not sure if I can necessarily recommend it. It's a fascinating idea around evolving your prehistoric humans. You learn new skills by discovering, practicing, and mastering, then pass on those skills to your next generation, who can adapt new skills in the process. There's a bit of a learning curve on how the game works, especially with little to no tutorial. But once you figure it out, it becomes interesting.

Unfortunately, it's very much a "learn by trial and error" kind of game. You can expect to die a lot at first because the game doesn't hold your hand or explain things very well (or at all). I still don't fully grasp how the dodging mechanic works in this. A lot of the learning processes are tedious as hell. Sometimes, it feels like it takes forever to learn a particular skill.

I also wish there was more community-based gameplay with your fellow homosapiens. There's a "monkey see, monkey do" style of gameplay where they'll mimic what you do. But it's difficult enough keeping yourself alive, let alone a pack of unevolved apes.

Still, there's something about this game that makes me keep coming back to it. It has a lot of interesting ideas, even if they aren't all executed well. I'm giving this a thumbs up, because I personally appreciate the game, but your own mileage may vary.

Armadillos are my favourite animals, so I jumped on getting this. Had it installed for months but hadn't had time to play it until now.

It's not great. It's a janky platforming collect-a-thon kind of game, but it's so poorly optimized for what should be a relatively simple game, that I had to really bring down the graphics settings to get it to run smoothly at all.

Maybe future patches will improve it, but right now, I can't say it's worth playing.

Neat idea as an 8-bit burglar game you might have seen on the NES. The execution is lacking, though, and I found I was only entertained by this for about 30 minutes.

An adorable, yet engrossing Metroidvania style game. It's shorter compared to the average Metroidvania games, but it's still worth every minute.

Early Access Review
Kickstarter backer here. It's...okay. Once you get past the novelty of setting the game in your neighborhood, the game is honestly kind of lackluster. The pacing on progress feels glacial. And moving squads around to search surrounding buildings gets extremely tedious after awhile.

There's a nugget of potential here, but it's not there yet. The developers haven't provided any road map for where the game is going, or what kind of state it's in towards the finished product. I don't foresee this meeting the potential.
