Siege is one of the very few shooters out there that is actually unique in its category. Ubisoft actually tries with this game and they're always changing it to make it the best it can be, which is something that can't be said for anything else they touch. They've vowed to support the game for 10 years (We're only 5 years in btw) and produce up to 100 operators in the process. Every year they're reworking maps in both the competitive/ ranked pool and the casual pool to keep the game fresh and remove frustrating mechanics in some maps.
Just about everything in the game is purchasable by the in-game currency: renown. The only exceptions are exclusive skins like Pro League skins and Elite skins, which just look cool or have special MVP animations if you finish 1st place in a match. Every single game you win, you get a roll at an alpha pack, which is Siege's skin loot box. If you lose the game or don't win the roll, your chance to get it next game goes up. Its a nice little mechanic and the longer you play the more and more skins you'll get.
Nowadays they're running battle passes like most games to date. They're about $20-30 bucks to unlock the premium tier. But the only thing the premium tier gives is immediate access to the new operators without having to buy them with renown and it gives about twice as many skins as the normal pass. Some are pretty decent, most are mediocre. So you should never feel like you have to buy it. But as much as I can recommend this game to you, I'll list out the bad for you so you can understand what you're gonna get yourself into.

1) Spawn Peaking. On every single map, no matter what game mode you play, even if you're in casual or ranked, there's almost always at least 1 guy spawn peaking. Most of the time if you just pay attention and pre-aim where they're going to be, its an easy kill 3 seconds into the round. But if you're not paying attention or you just don't know whats happening, you're going to die before the round actually starts.
2) Audio Glitches. This happens far too frequently to not be a serious problem. I can't tell you how often I'll hear someone to the left or right of me when they're above me/ below me. Or you'll hear a barricade from across the map get opened but it sounds like its directly in front of you. Its legitimately enraging sometimes. So you'll have to learn to trust team calls over your own ears in almost every scenario.
3) Smurfs. Needless to say, don't play ranked unless you have a full squad of good players in your skill bracket. If you don't, you're rolling the dice on whether or not you're going against people in your rank or diamond/champion smurfs.
4) The Skill Gap. This games skill gap is about on par with most strategy games like Crusader Kings or Stellaris. I'd even say its higher than those games. You'll literally put 1000's of hours into this game and still learn new things in some maps that make your previous attacks or defenses significantly stronger or even significantly weaker. Every game, every death is a learning experience. As much as I don't want to put this as a negative, for new players this is an incredibly frustrating experience. You'll spend a lot of your early time dead on drones or cams just watching other people play. But as you learn the game, learn how sites are set up and how to defend/attack them, you'll see yourself die less and less often and eventually you'll just rage like the rest of us screaming, "WHY IS HE THERE!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" because everyone else is braindead, not you right?
5) Toxicity. Now the toxicity of the game has been handled pretty well over the years with chat filters, toxicity bans, reverse friendly fire and a slew of other positive changes. There are still a metric ♥♥♥♥ ton of toxic players who will just grief you for no apparent reason. They'll destroy your gadgets, tell the enemy team where you are, ear rape you, trash talk you even though they died 2 seconds into the round, etc. etc. Granted the majority of the time this only happens in casual, but it'll still occasionally happen in ranked. Just mute these people, report them and carry on with your day. They aren't worth the time or the effort.
