It's more Supraland, just a bit smaller of a story. Not as good as the main game or as long, but still great. It gettign a $5 price cut was good, but i personally still think it should be cheaper with 6-inches-under being out and a true sequel on the way

One of the few games that rewards you by breaking out of what you think are the "boundaries" of the map. The more you break its puzzles, the more you realize that breaking them was the intent all along, and the more it rewards you with more tools to break more puzzles.

The humor feels like something out of the early Newgrounds era. Its on the nose and is stupid as hell, but it works.

It extends to the DLC(s technically), and it just feels good the entire way through the story and 100% completion.

Remember Fez and how it had layers of meta puzzles that used each-other as stepping stones? Remember how La Mulana took it a step too far and made it even harder and more esoteric? This game reigns in the meta elements of games like this, and successfully confuses you without you even knowing how and why you are.

Every nook and cranny of this game has some form of secret. Every item you collect has some use the game never tells you about. The map itself plays with you and misdirects you on how to move forwards in a way that still lets you feel like you discovered how to do so.

Environment Station Alpha is the closes game to this one in both truly meta puzzles and progression. You feel totally powerless and lost for most of the experience in a way no other game does. You don't defeat bosses, you outsmart them. The game has "stages" where the deeper you dig, the more details you have to find and contextualize. The eggs you find everywhere are its own ending, but also form part of another ending, which is of itself part of another ending. Counting a secret dev message, there's talk that there is at least 4 layers of secrets, with a theorized 5th layer that requires glitches the developers hint at occasionally. That's how deep the rabbit hole goes. Think easier than Noita's puzzles, but without the game difficulty.

Picks and chooses random elements from similar games in the "mmo looter-shooter" genre, but has very little interplay between them. It uses a Warframe style of character building system, where abilities are tightly locked to a specific gimmick, but doesnt let them actually interact with the rest of your kit in a more meaningful manor.

Weapons are locked into different ammo types, but like playable "classes," they for the most part don't have anything unique about them outside of what their specific archetype has about them; every Ominous Hound will generally work the same with only slightly changed stats. Worse, most guns are just upgrades to previous ones, not actual worthy upgrades. The Destiny franchise got around this by having random rolls on the perks guns might have. The Borderlands franchise has a table of parts a gun or shield can have. Guns in TFD instead roll with a chance for slots you insert mods into. These slots not only have a random mod type, they also have a random number of slots, and a maximum "charge" those mods can occupy. The mods are also random, and they may only drop with the gun itself. Basically Random Rolls that have a random chance to roll, and only a handful of meaningful ways to target what you want.

This kind of stuff is everywhere in the game, not just weapons. Classes must be "built" of things that are randomly dropped. as mentioned, most mods are randomly dropped and are usually just garbage. This is the entire game.

Sony finally decided to recend their decision after watching the game go from overwhelmingly positive to overwhelmingly negative in 2 days. I'm editing my review now to a positive just to make sure Sony gets the idea that the community deserves better.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sony decided to bait and switch the community. They originally wanted the game to require PSN, but realized the game would bomb if it did. So, in their stupidity, decided to let the game go for several months, and are now going to force PSN logins at the end of May 2024.

This on top of going out of their way to say "They wont get in the way of their developers" not too long before the game's launch... yeah. No.

Despite having a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Ryzen R7 5800x, Sapphire 7900XT, 32gb of ram, and high end motherboard, the game hitches like hell every few seconds. If it doesn't hitch, it just flat out crashes to desktop and takes applications running on my GPU with it.

Its only this game that does this, other titles and applications don't even drop more than a few frames. I'm not seeing any issues in error logs, hardware or software level profile tools, or through the in-game benchmarking tool. It happens regardless what graphics settings I'm using hardware or in-game wise.

I suspect its the game itself not knowing what to do with newer hardware or drivers, which is frankly sad considering this is a newer game.

Heads up, my hours for some reason are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. I should have ~100 more hours, but for some reason Steam decided that I only have ~10 hours??

I used to play this game years ago, but stopped for some reason. My friends started to play again, so I decided to come back and see what I was missing- I wasnt missing anything.

The playerbase has a mindset of "get to the end as fast as possible," but don't seem to understand that "getting to the end as fast as possible" doesn't help with leveling up your weapons or frames as much as I don't know... PLAYING THE GAME. Trying to tell people this just makes them pissed off at you. Not bothering and just doing your own thing just gets you kicked from parties.

Oh, and because the planet maps keep getting reworked, my progress is so ungodly ruined, I would have to do days worth of grinding to complete the arbitrary content gates to get to other planets to get to the "fun" content... that requires more grinding to prepare for.

What if you took Baba is You, and instead of rewriting the rules, you used a higher plane of existence? This game uses levels as the blocks, yourself as the block, yourself as an immovable wall, levels that you push outside of itself to clone itself, and so much more absolutely mind-bending interactions with 2d projected onto 2.5d space.
Theres simply nothing like this game.

There is literally nothing like this game. If you played games like Powder Toy, and have played a lot of the "run and gun" levels, you might know what to expect.

Since I reviewed the game, it has since gone on to have even more gameplay and secrets. Pretty much everything a lot of older reviews have mentioned has been ironed out, but it sure hasnt changed difficulty wise. If anything, it has only gotten more difficult with the introduction of more "treechevements" that take you through the footsteps of others that came before you, much like the original base game did.

If you like the base building mechanics, upgrade system, and progression of Factorio, but dislike the combat, Shapez.io is for you.

The wires update only expanded the things you can do.
