EDIT: MP had a massive overhaul and starting/playing an MP game with a friend is now easy! *changed to positive*

EDIT: Tried to play MP with a friend and turns out you have to be a rocket scientist to set-up a server to play. No LAN/Co-op, nothing. After about 3 hours of trial and error I got a server set-up, but turns out it starts a new world every time it starts up due, so about 5 hours of progress gone because. Do not want to be messing with .bat files and command lines just to play a game with a friend. Negative review until this horrible part of the game is reworked.

Fantastic game. If you love engineering you’ll love this game. It takes what all other space survival games do right and puts it all together - and does it better!

Building is slow, but in a very enjoyable way. I never found myself bored or frustrated building something. Hell, it took me 4 hours to build a 2x2x2 cool little self-sufficient house, but boy did it feel rewarding getting those systems set-up, and especially so once it was finished. Lots of thought has really gone into the building/wiring/piping system as, unlike other grid-based building games, objects can be placed on a smaller grid scale on the larger wall/floor/ceiling grids, and certain objects like pipes and wires can actually be routed through other objects to avoid frustration/unnecessary complication. And then boom! All your ugly wiring/piping jobs can be covered up by just adding sheets to the walls by completing them. Perfect system if you ask me.

24 hours in and I haven’t even really started a survival world yet as I like to really learn a games systems/learning how to optimize before going there. The learning process has been fun and exciting unlike other games where it feels like a chore.

Please ignore the negative reviews of people who are complaining about the slowness and complexity of building. All systems are really quite easy to learn and understand because they just make sense when you go and attempt it. The systems can be as basic and complex as you like as there is no ‘standard’ to building, so there is always room for your systems/buildings to grow in complexity. I almost didn’t buy the game because of a few reviews, but then I actually tried it and I honestly have no idea why the concerns they have are an issues at all.

Fantastic game. Addictive. Beautiful. Well thought-out. Massive potential.

It's practically Rimworld in a 3D and Medieval environment.

I will change this review once the devs decide to fix their game and stop releasing new features.
Stormworks still is my all-time favorite game, but I choose not the play it right now.

V1 - devs take the game out of early access, REMOVE features and create a lot of bugs.

Oh, you're unhappy with the unplayable state of the game? Here's some more features with more bugs.
Oh, you didn't like that we haven't fixed bugs and balanced the previously added features? Here more untested features to keep the money rolling in.

(FIXED) I was super excited for the modular engines update, but they're unusable. Fuel economy and temperature balance don't even come close to the appropriate balance that the old engines had. I changed one of my ships to use a new modular engine with the equivalent amount of power and torque and it uses 57x the amount of fuel? And it uses 4 5x5 radiators and 6 5x5 fluid-fluid heat exchangers, all of which are hooked up to engine-driven pumps, and it overheats at 4RPS? Wow.

The devs released an update a few days ago with "bugfixes" which they chose not to list what they fixed. They intentionally dodge all the concerns that the community has and treat them like they're invalid concerns and that we're all just stupid. All the major problems are still there. But HEY! More features coming soon!

Get a grip guys.

EDIT (Changed from negative to positive): I am aware this review was the most popular review for this game but I'm forced to wipe those ratings after changing to recommended. I was looking through my steam reviews whilst bored and found this review... I'm looking at this game less than a year later, and wow. When I first made this review the game hadn't been updated in over a year and looked like bad abandonware. Now it looks like the dev has put some really hard work into the game to turn it around judging by the updates and their videos. I will definitely consider re-buying this game.

Here's what the dev had to say in one of his updates:
"In the early stage of the development, the game got a lot of “Not Recommended” comments, but I believe you know, the completion of the game is made from huge amount of time, meanwhile I also have listened and followed the community’s suggestions and feedbacks to a certain extent. After carefully considered, a lot of requirements and advice from our player have already becomes functional features which exist in the game now."

Sounds like a really down-to-earth developer who is working hard to fix issues brought up by the community! Rigidbody: It makes me really happy to see this game turned around in such a small time-frame. Fantastic job! I would love to see a campaign/progression system and I will absolutely have to get this game in my steam library again.

OLD REVIEW JULY 2020:

If you're buying this game for Nostalgia alone, or for any other reason for that matter, don't.

The only pro I can think about for this game is the graphics - a beautiful, but simplistic style.
Don't let the graphics trick you into thinking the editor is going to be simple to play with however, as it is anything but.
Without going into detail and labeling every con with the editor, and the game itself, here is a few simple frustrations I had with it to give an idea:
- Every time you place a block you have to select that block again, rotate it again, and place it. I built the smallest ship imaginable and this is still frustrating.
- Sometimes objects just become unselectable whilst using the editor. You have to reload the ship just to make blocks selectable again.
- Menus in the game are sometimes just randomly in Chinese and you have to take a guess at what option does what.
- Amongst many other irritable "features".

The game also lacks anything to do really. Unlike the original iOS version, you have unlimited funds and no progressive mission system. Just a bunch of battles/duels that can be played anytime and not listed in any order of difficulty.
Don't expect to see half the features from the iOS version either. No planes, nothing like that.

It is understandable that development of the game would be slow with there only being one developer, and especially with what is going on with COVID right now, but there is a significant lack of updates, and not many features considering the game is 2 years into development at this point there isn't much to show for it.

Another point to add is that screenshots on the store page actually show content that isn't even in the game yet, and some even showing user created content through the workshop instead, which is against Steam's policy, and generally any policy on advertisement.

39 minutes in: I was frustrated with the building mechanics through easily fixable, repetitive mechanics; and just generally bored with the features of the game having already possessed every item in the game, and having no particular campaign/progressive missions to play through. I don't refund games often as I usually look into them a lot before buying, but this game lacked much info/content on the internet, and after reading through the store page I had high expectations (with a good few hours/days of gameplay/progression in mind).

The description straight up lies... There is no campaign to play through, and no rewards for a campaign... or any sort of progression.

Huge fan of the Total War series; always disliked fantasy-themed games. But for some reason, I absolutely love this game.
