Like all good jokes, Surgeon Simulator 2013 knows when to stop. You could easily get through most of the content in an hour or two – something that the game's price prepares you for. The game is broken into three operations; heart transplant, kidney transplant and brain surgery. Once done, you'll get to do them all over again but in the back of an ambulance, where speed bumps and sharp turns constantly hurl your equipment around. Once your patient, Bob, has been "patched up" for the sixth time, you've seen most of the game. Although you do have the option to replay old stages to improve your previous time and rankings.

Grid 2 is a gorgeous, well-designed game that packs a tonne of variety into both single-player and multiplayer. Hardcore sim fans and those who refuse to play anything that doesn’t feature a cockpit may well disapprove, but Grid 2‘s realistic-but-not-too-realistic driving and drifting should be able to pull a squeak of delight out of just about anyone else.

The Witcher 2 is indeed a title that needs to be experienced by every single RPG fan out there; however bear in mind that this title does carry a PEGI age restriction of 18, and is not suited for anyone below this age limit. As stated before, this is not just because of the nudity or the graphic violence, but due to the fact that The Witcher 2 has an in-depth storyline that covers a diverse range of political and racial aspects, which allows it to be the spectacular mature title that it is.

When it comes to lasting appeal, The Witcher 2 will take between 30 to 40 hours to complete, depending on your skill level and whether you partake in various side-quests. If you have not picked up a copy of the Witcher 2, I can highly recommend it wether on sale or full price, it's worth every penny of your cash.

The best thing about Don’t Starve is the same as its sister games Minecraft and Terraria; the sense of discovery and amazement. No matter how many times you fail and start again, you will always learn something new or discover a funny new joke within the game. The systems at work are always fun to fiddle with and the constant updates keep the game feeling fresh. Klei Entertainment have been very consistent in delivering large title updates every two weeks, and they will continue this trend up to and even after the games launch in April. Each update further adjusts the games main systems as well as adds new recipes to discover and create and new enemies to deal with. The future for Don’t Starve holds further difficulties, weather patterns, defensive structures and new methods for the world to transform. Klei have delivered another solid title to add to their collection, and another genre tackled and mastered. If you enjoy exploration, progression and beautiful art and sound, than Don’t Starve may be for you.

Impire was always going to face a tough reception, being the first in a wave of very familiar looking dungeon sims that’ll be popping up throughout the year, but rather than take that challenge and run with it, Cyanide have instead made a game that is slightly worse than its inspiration in pretty much all aspects. If you’re pining after Dungeon Keeper, your money would be far better spent grabbing the originals on GOG. While you’re there, do yourself a favour and pick up Evil Genius and Startopia. By the time you’ve worked your way through all those, the next contender for the Dungeon Keeper throne will no doubt be nearly ready, and we can go through this whole merry dance once again.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is a fantastic experience, and one of the best games I've played this generation. Even with some graphical hiccups, it remains superior to the console counterparts, offering more content, better graphical options and a frame rate that is steady throughout. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is an experience like no other that will invoke a multitude of emotions while keeping you planted on the edge of your seat.

I hope most if not all of the bugs and issues there are fixed through beta and release. For an alpha it was very impressive but I feel there is still some work to do to make the game the best it can possibly be and with a price of £19.99 ($32.99 – € 24.99) is almost idiotic to pass up. I imagine on full release that price will go to the normal price for a new game on Steam, either £29.99 or £39.99, so get it while it’s hot.

Crystal Dynamics has created what it needed to: a highly polished, deeply enjoyable game that should appeal as much to action shooter nuts as (a large number of) classic Tomb Raider fans. It's like a blend between Tomb Raider Legend and Call of Duty. Graphically stunning and graphically violent; visceral, compelling and balanced.

Lara may spend one emotional moment saying she hates tombs, but there's no doubt in my mind I loved Tomb Raider.

Funcom has brought the game a long way since its rocky beginnings and a lot of care has been taken in improving each aspect of the game that is currently not up to par. For a game that for quite some time looked like it would cease to exist, it is exciting to see the game back on its feet. There are many hours to be spent exploring this beautifully crafted world, and I completely geeked out many times. The latest Adventure Pack has helped to bridge a large gap between the Tier 3 and 4 raids, an issue that plagued many players and halted progression. With the right eye players will find a magical world full of rich lore, gruesome gore and plenty of barely clothed wenches. What more could you truly ask for?

Beyond its obvious appeal to Sega fans, this is a rich, bold and substantial arcade racer that demands your attention. It might not be quite as finely tuned as Mario Kart, but it’s a good deal more ambitious, and different enough that it deserves a place alongside it in your gaming library.
