I think this game was written by someone who truly and sincerely hates 'Homeworld' with all their heart. I physically felt sick as It hit me and realised what was going on. For me it happened during the turret defence bit. You know. Homeworld.
I first played these games in 2015.

It must feel a lot worse it you first played them another two decades before that.

Serious first: Visual accessibility is unacceptable.


The text rendering is just bad, bloom or not, it only gets worse when you increase the hud scaling (why?). But what's unforgiavble is the typeface. The font for the main UI is horrific. It's like some of the character are italic, for no reason? I've been a gifted english language reader in primary school where I had books instead of friends, and these days reading software drawn 8pt linux terminal is fine on this screen or any other. Reading is the thing I do most, mostly from this very screen. But I can't read the Eagle Prospector's HUD at all. It's so perfectly illegible, like the textures were put there by an adversarially trained glyph generator.

Update: Yeah I've left this game tabbed out throttled for 14 hours at a time. hours are inflated but the number of zeros is right I reckon

I've paid more for sandwiches. if any of the ideas interest you just get it. it's so obviously a product of enthusiam and not committee, even if you don't like if you'll still be relieved at the reminder that games can be so much more than GTA5 and the other 9 best sellers this week

all i'll say about the gameplay is that the complexity emerges at the pace you look for it. so go ahead, look around, and restart a few times. there's 5+ quick campaign slots in the main menu. i dont think i'm doing permadeath but i dropped my first save after dying playing him and i'm g lad I did like 10 hours later.

i am prone to leaving this game on tabbed out after a long dive, so my hours may be 50-100% inflated. ironic because this game loads instantly if your pc can do it. mash left click in the right place and you'll be from steam to the launch dive screen in under a second.

helps when the entire game, 4k patch inclusive, fits in RAM like a single browser tab and a 2000s era console-pc port does today

dull, short, "streamlined", struggles to make 60 FPS on a GTX 970. blacklist shares none of these flaws but that game crashes constantly and is a pretty egregious piece of propaganda to boot

crashes to desktop every 30 minutes without an error message, great exception handling ubisoft! i've tried several fixes and none work. when it works (it doesn't) it performs well, blends modern game design sensibilities with classic splinter cell mechanics and is an unashamed propaganda piece

don't buy this because it's expensive propaganda which doesn't run properly


...if i'd bothered to read the reviews before buying this i wouldn't be writing this one now.

if you love endless samey randomly generated battles and dull strateigic overlays that get in the way of actually playing the game - battlefleet gothic armada 2's campaign is the one for you

Homeworld is sublime. Homeworld 2 just stops the cravings.

The remaster had issues with faithfulness to the original version upon release (projectile weapons no longer firing projectiles, formations not working), but this was fixed in a large patch several years ago now. They even ported the improvements to the Homeworld 2 remaster.
