I sank 14 hours into this the day it came out on early access, and it's only improved since with regular updates and bug fixes—many of which are direct responses from the very responsive developer to community feedback. The in-game goals provide a sense of progression while letting players move at their own pace, giving them time to play around with the genetics system's endless possibilities.
