After additional 170ish hours ive decided to change my Initial review which was posted during an update that made the game unlaunchable for most users, including myself.

There are a few bugs which I believe are mostly tied to lag in multiplayer, however, one I still cant figure out is why the stamina bar continues to shrink over time in hoarfrost even when taking hot drinks.

Overall the game is enjoyable, and if your like me and don't mind a good grind, you can skip the Defender/Guardian gear. However, I wish that it was noted in-game that it was meant for an Iceborne rush. At the time I didn't own Iceborne and the in-game guide suggested to get it regardless. Which ruined the learning curve for me. It wasnt until I reached the next area did I realise my mistake.

The game IS fun. And i'm sure the other reviews have a much better time pointing out the positives, with that being said...

Learning curves. the game misses out on many in-game tips about the available mechanics.
- The absolute Importance of the Canteen
- Firing Torch pods at the ground clears Effluvial damage around you
- How the damn Clawshot works, Yes there is a mission to guide you through this, but I wasn't even aware
until my friend pointed it out to me.
- Stacking decorations with armor to boost skills
- how to capture monsters (this one it does technically tell you, but assumes you do every side quest or just
so happen to pick the right ones)
- Grimalkyne Tribes that unlock palico gear and tailriders
- and likely more that I am yet to find out.

It could be because I'm using a keyboard, but the controls for ranged weapons are absolute garbage.
I feel that the two handed weapons are under-powered. There is no point using a weapon that does an extra 10-15 damage if you can pick a much lighter weapon that doesnt lock you in an animation.

And when it comes to animations. Stuns and Paralysis lasts way too damn long. By the time your character even starts to stand up again the monster has already eaten you, your palico, and your ugly handler.
Honestly there is so much wrong with this game that I don't know how to keep it in order.

6/10
would be a 7/10 but minus 1 point for dodge not working half the time.

Early Access Review
Really easy and handy to use, and it is simple enough for you to add your own objects if you cannot find any suitable in the base program or workshop.

Not bad to pass the time. At the moment the game is a little mediocre to say its not free. The tutorial is buggy so it requires a little fiddling to understand how the game works. At the time of writing this I have spent less than an hour playing, so I will write another once i've explored more. For the time being, and for the price tag I give this a 6/10.

A Polite Review on the Online Gameplay

This is completely ignoring the campaign because overall story mode is ok. However I would like to dedicate this review to the hard working, polite, staff of rockstar. They have created a system that really looks out for their players. Well done.

Now on to the point. I believe I hit level 20 before I was flooded with modders. Most of which were kind of passive and just minded their own business. I'm against hacking and personally avoid taking any sort of short cut that would overall shorten my game time by just spawning myself cash. But those passive hackers just go around their own business and bother no one. And from what I can tell, they don't even put on godmode when doing public supply missions. Unfortunately, I am not writing this review in regards to the passive players. This is towards the pleasant players who destroy the fun factor of others and that the system in place that is meant to prevent such actions is completely useless. When I finally hit level 30 I am constantly killed by god-mode, vehicle spawning, explosive ammunition wielding modders. Now the correct process would be to report them and switch server to deal with some other player who tends to have similar if not the same hacks in place. Fun. However, a week later and the exact same usernames pop up to spawn camp me. Or even force money on top of me when asking them to stop. Are they banned? No.

This is when the almighty banning system comes in with it's completely ridiculous algorithms that just ignores the true threats to the game. I eventually hit level 50 and grinded like crazy to max out a bunker during a massive discount weekend. Now for some reason. Banned. Fantastic. This is only a month suspension and I would have just brushed it aside as a break from a game isn't the worse thing in the world. But, as to the brilliant staff behind it all: after the suspension is finally lifted EVERYTHING will be reset and I will have to restart all over again. For what? playing the game by the rules?

My online experience has been dreadful. And trying to discuss it to the staff directly results in hanging up, copy and pasted replies that CLEARLY indicate that my issue has not even been read, and/or be left to deal with an automated reply by some bot because of a subject I selected as to try and stick to guidlines. A really alround great staff.

So if you have poor internet, or just aren't interested in online gameplay then go ahead and get the game for the singleplayer campaign. I dare say you might enjoy it! HOWEVER If you are thinking of getting this game for online. Remove from any wishlists, shopping carts, and start looking for a different game with at least 90% less hackers. I understand games have hackers in them, but 9 in 10 servers is an absolute joke. If i wanted to play a pc game to deal with unfair gameplay with hackers I would have brought any CoD.

tl;dr

DO NOT BUY FOR MULTIPLAYER

Just over 300 hours and i'm still not bored of this game. I must admit that around the 50 hour minute mark i installed mods to spice up the game a bit, though that is just another point to Chuckle Fish for allowing mod Support. And I'm enjoying their little space station update that just came out too.

Play the game if:
You like Space.
You like Guns.
You like Building.
You like Destroying.
You like Customization.
You Refunded No Mans Sky
You like Putting off a threat to the universe for more important tasks like watering your crops.
You have friends.
You don't have friends.
All of the above.

I will warn you that this game is very addicting. I am sure that those with the time will play at least 6 hours a day for a whole month before starting to get bored. And there are great updates and many amazing mods to fix that. I never thought I would spend so much time on such a seemingly simple game.
