This review is only for it as it runs on Steam Deck as that is the only way I have played Oblivion Remastered. The game is nearly unplayable on Steam Deck. It defaulted to Low settings on everything, which honestly looks worse than the original to me. Any attempts to increase the settings made the game into a sputtery mess. There were be constant frame drops, even on low settings, occasionally going so far as to freeze the game until it can catch up to processing the game. I experienced crashes outside of the town Kvach, which made it extremely difficult to even attempt the main quest. What you can do is general roaming as long as you don’t enter certain areas of the overworld that are prone to crashes, and enter dungeons which run decent, but also don’t look much better than original Oblivion because you have to play on low settings. I tried playing on lowest settings, but would not recommend it, all the lighting is messed up and makes the game look washed out and way too bright. It also makes the edges of models very pixelated which is quite jarring.
Quite frankly I have no idea how Oblivion Remastered got Steam Deck verified, it is extremely misleading and will cause a lot of frustration with Steam Deck players. The game plays much worse than other games which have been labeled Unsupported like Starfield. I would recommend anyone who wants to play oblivion on Steam Deck to get Oblivion Game of the Year Deluxe edition, it plays well on Steam Deck and contains all the dlc you would be getting from the remaster outside of the armor quest and horse armor quest that is new with the remaster. Hopefully a new build will come and make it compatible with Steam Deck but in the mean time Valve should really remove its Verified Status. Until then it’ll get a thumbs down from me.
