This is the first Metal Gear Solid game I have really gotten into, played the game as a kid back when it was released with Xbox live gold. I remember not knowing how to play so once I got back to mother base I would just throw my own men off the structure into the ocean for 30 minutes and then get bored lol. After years of having the series in my backlogue, and being pushed to play it by things like his inclusion in smash (one of my favorite characters to play) and the references to the games in Youtube videos that people like Pyrocynical or Apandah make; I decided fairly recently to pick it up on sale for $3 USD, and it was exactly what I needed. I had about a week of freetime, due to snow-days at school, and the fact that most of my online friends didn't live in the area inclined me to play the game I had bought about a month prior, and ooh-boy am I glad I did, the gameplay is great, the game rewards you for creating your own difficulty, sure you can blast your way through most missions no problem, but the reward of an A or S tier score gained by moving quickly and remaining undetected is much more alluring than any run and gun could be. Not to mention sneaking actually feels good in this game (thank god am I right?) unfortunately after about 40 hours the enemies start to become a little easier to deal with but aren't anymore predictable, as their human-like "thought process" and movement keeps you on your feet, but the limitations the ai has becomes apparent after this time, making it easier to sneak around and complete missions. Soundtrack is great, and I greatly appreciate the ability to put your own custom music into the game, I like to listen to music when I play games, but I don't like it impeding on the gameplay, story, or cutscenes so this is great, and I genuinely think every single player game should include this feature, and multiplayer games could aslo greately benefit from it. (its also really funny to play songs like Sneaky Snitch by Kevin MacLeod https://youtu.be/Cm0qaXi9THA while infiltrating and enemy base or outpost) I am not finished with the game completely, and I am a little burned out after the first 31 missions, (especially since I played 40 hours in a week) but I can see myself coming back to the game in the near future to finish it off. 9.3/10.
