Every rare while, you find a true gem. This is one.

Sometimes all it takes is simplicity and endless charm; A Short Hike has exactly that and does it so very well. The charming characters, many secrets, and a number of side-quests and activities are sure to turn it into A Long Hike instead. Quite often, in my eagerness to help a camper find a lost permit or a rabbit find her confidence, getting to the top of the mountain ends up being the very last thing I get around to.

The one thing that really shines is the importance of connection and kindness, which is expressed very well in the dialogue between Claire and other characters. A Short Hike touches on matters such as low confidence, anxiety and daunting challenges through well written and often witty dialogue, full of tenderness and encouragement. The writers struck a very perfect balance, successfully making it heartwarming and uplifting without being sappy or cliché.

If I ever feel low or simply wish to wind down before bed, A Short Hike is perfect. The cosy atmosphere and fantastic score composed by Mark Sparling--so very perfectly woven into the game---are sure to leave you feeling warm and delighted. This game was clearly built with a lot of love, heart and care, and it truly shines with that glowing affection.
