Some of gaming's greatest quotes/people. Bless you Peter :^) If only you could have lived up to the legendary status of someone like Gabe Newell. I guess your NFT business game will have to do...

Is it (will it ever be) Left 4 Dead 3? No

Would I recommend Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 over it? In a heartbeat

Is it still fun? Yes

I fully understand the hate this game has gotten over the last year. The first time I saw footage of it, the game screamed "watered down left 4 dead". To give some context to those who are otherwise unaware, B4B was developed by the same team behind left 4 dead 1&2 (albeit under Valve's supervision). If you want to know specific details, just look them up yourself. Basically, the biggest reason this game got so much flak on launch is, you guessed it, the hype train derailed into a wreck as is commonplace with many anticipated games these days. It's apparent people thought "Oh the people behind left 4 dead are making another zombie game 10+ years later, there's no way this can suck". As I said before, I get and agree with most of the game's criticisms. I will just leave this video here made by the legendary Crowbcat comparing/contrasting it with Turtle Rock's previous work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdRLNUGmFC8

Since most of the game's criticism stems from likening it to Left 4 Dead, I would now like to shift gears and judge it on its own merits. I did not pre-order it nor did I pay the premium AAA price point of $59.99 USD (only paid like 50 cents as i got it in a huge bundle). If I'm being honest, this has allowed me to enjoy the game more. As someone who is a huge advocate of crossplay in modern co-op games (not necessarily PVP), this was probably the first thing to win me over. This alone is going to get a thumbs up from me no matter how lackluster a game might be. Since the steam version only retains an average 2k daily concurrent player count[steamcharts.com], cross-platform is sure to expedite finding matches (granted I only use quickplay). I also find it hard to fault any game that utilizes directx12's DLSS feature. If you don't have an RTX card, do not worry as the game now supports FSR which works on a handful of AMD and GTX cards offering you similar if not better performance options (again, look this up yourself to see if your current PC supports and or will utilize these features). As for the actual game, I've enjoyed how they setup the ability to tailor each cleaner to his or her play style. This is done through the game's card deck system which will make or break a run. Especially on the higher difficulties. I haven't sunk much time in Back 4 Blood and still do not understand many of the buffs/debuffs and have yet to complete any run on Nightmare/No Hope so take my limited knowledge with a grain of salt. I think they have done a tremendous job balancing these cards with enough of a challenge during the more stressful parts. While B4B doesn't have those dreaded lootboxes or similar pay to win systems, you'll still earn supply points/skull totems which can be redeemed for weapon skins, character outfits, burn cards, and sprays. Some look great, others not so much.

This game is not without its faults. The characters are likable enough, but dialogue can get pretty cringy at times (especially during cut scenes). While I do think that on lower difficulties, playing with randoms is usually a breeze, there's still a chance that things can go south pretty quickly when you have things like trauma, which gradually decreases max health for players who consistently take large amounts of damage. This prevents you from effectively healing other players or yourself. That is until it is removed at a healing station or by other means. As someone who plays medic in TF2, I am always trying to ensure my teammates are at maximum health (usually at my own expense). This system always makes me second guess myself after using a full medkit on someone, only to see them gain few health points back L4D's healing system pls. Like any cooperative game, having a full coordinated team with competent players will ensure a much smoother experience. While there are glitches that have persisted since launch, I have yet to encounter anything totally game-breaking.

If I have to give Back 4 Blood a rating, I think it earns a solid 8/10. I love co-operative zombie survival games and with the variety of enemies, weapons, and play styles B4B contains, this earns a thumbs up from me as I will recommenced it to others who enjoy such games. And yes, contrary to what others will tell you, it is possible to enjoy all 3 games even if the latter is an "indirect sequel" to a praised masterpiece.

This review mostly pertains to Zombies:

From the standpoint of a codkid who's first experience with Nazi Zombies was the mobile version for Iphone/Ipod Touch in 2009, WOW...this game mode sure has come a long way. Most of my time playing call of duty has been on console and for a while I felt somewhat uncomfortable playing on PC's m&k (thankfully we have gamepads to rectify that). After picking bo3 up on steam however, I was immediately sucked into it. The only jarring issue I take with this game is the previously novel Gobblegum/Liquid Divinium feature coupled with COD points (more microtransaction BS). The alternative to this pay-to-win scheme is to simply play the game. Unlock LD by hitting the box, buying perks ,opening doors, etc...which in turn can be used in Dr. Monty's Lab to create random gobblegums. After getting a group of buddies who helped me with the EE, I reluctantly started using all of the gums I had accrued to help us and now I'm a little more open-minded on using them. I won't lie, Gobble can certainly serve as a deus ex machina on higher rounds, on co-op with noobs, and in general just to get stuff done faster. Best advice though is to save the good ones (perkaholic, soda fountain, reign drops, etc...) primarily for eastereggs.

The biggest pluses for me are:
•Beautiful Graphics/Impressive lighting details which still hold up 👍

•Further expansion into the Zombies universe lore 👍EASTEREGGS FOR DAYS BABY!

• The BO3 iteration of the IW engine runs almost flawlessly with smoother animations, physics, and most imporantly the ability to get out of sticky situations with more ease. 👍

•Slightly easier for beginners as zombies will now hit you twice and then red screen you on the third successful hit in a row without Juggernog Soda. Previous titles allowed only two successful zombie hits before getting downed. (This change could be seen as negative/crutch-like by the more seasoned purists however). 👍

•The steam workshop now serves as a dedicated hub for uploading and downloading custom maps. The community is still alive and well at the time of this review, and contains thousands of passionate map makers and custom maps. The most impressive features I've seen myself are custom perk-colas and weapons/assets from previous CODS ported into BO3. 👍

•Overall this game has a much smoother feel to it compared to it's predecessors probably due to modern games running on 64 bit engines without the limitations that exist in games from the 2000's (cough TF2 cough Source cough cough). Please correct me if I'm wrong. 👍

Drawbacks:
•IMO, Gobblegum is a HUGE crutch and I think it was the first feature implemented that was completely wrong for the franchise. This was replaced by the elixirs in BO4 which are pretty much identical in function. 👎

•Shadows of Evil and most of the base DLC maps (non-workshop) are very easteregg-focused and will usually require you to pick up specific items on the map, push buttons, complete rituals/trials, build equipment, and so on. For those who just want to kill zombies and get to high rounds without the extra bells and whistles, this may come as a hinderance to you. :👎

•Like previous titles, any given Call of Duty will stop receiving support/patches after the first year or so. Unfortunately, there are quite a few "hackers" that currently plague public lobbies who can potentially reset your stats, max your level out, or simply just cheat for themselves at everyone else's expense. I speak from experience and on behalf of several friends. Please just tread with caution when playing with randoms. 👎

It is clear the devs put an abundant amount of love, attention, and creativity into the game. The base game now includes the Zombies Chronicles DLC so you will be able to re-live the nostalgia of the first 3 games. Or experience them for the first time...FOR FREE!!!
Briefly touching on the campaign and multiplayer: I found the single-player to be as dull and lifeless as the world of cyborgs robots and super soldiers you are projected in. It has absolutely nothing to do with the first 2 games plot so you aren't missing anything at all. Multiplayer is alright I guess. they've added futuristic crap like wall running, special operators, new killstreak awards, character customization (usually behind their microtransaction system). I always seem to get my ass kicked since I'm going against M&K players and am so used to playing on a controller so there's that I guess. Not much else to say I think.

TL;DR: This game is pretty much great only for the zombies mode...of which Treyarch did a stellar job at creating a balanced beautiful and bright game that bridges bo2's Aether story into bo3. The game has a fairly consistent/active playerbase for a 6 year old COD game albeit with the occasional cheater. Multiplayer is ok; what you'd expect from COD, nothing groundbreaking. Finally, the campaign is generic boring schlock which I will certainly not remember for a damn...or finish.

11/25/21 Update: OK while the motion blur is pretty much the same, I have to change my review to a positive one. For starters, they seemed to have FINALLY patched the insane FPS drops related to Dimitrescu's daughters when they attack you.

I'm about a quarter of the way into the game and so far I am enjoying it as much as I enjoyed 7 (horror, excitement, ridiculousness and all). At this point, I am convinced that Ethan is like a distant cousin of Wolverine. Jokes aside I highly recommend picking this up if you enjoyed 7. Also contains some breathtaking graphics...

Old Review: I'm not one to usually write negative reviews, however I believe the following needs to be addressed:
The level of motion sickness when playing this is unbearable. I can't go more than 15 minutes without having to take a break and I'm sure the fact that I play on an ultrawide monitor doesn't help either. I've seen several other people bring this point up as well and it seems to be on par with what others have described VR to be like for first time users.

The game itself is fine. Graphics are delightful, shout out to the idiots on the steam forums who think re7 looks better l0l , gameplay SO FAR has been tense, and I really think I'll be invested enough in the story the whole way through. If the option to remove what I presume is motion blur gets added, I will change my review to positive. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.

The only First Person Shooter you will ever need to play [Alongside Halo 2] [[and Goldeneye N64]]

Just sucks you need a separate launcher for quake and external software for halo (of course referring to Xbox not mcc) to play their multiplayer modes nowadays =/
