She Sees Red is an interactive live-action game, where the player has to enjoy the story and make the choices during the most important moments to make an impact on it. The game encourages the player to finish it more than one time to reveal all the details and see every possible ending.

Pros:

+ Rich and detailed characters
+ Quality filming
+ A good amount of action scenes
+ Multiple endings
+ Professional voice dubbing

Cons:

- Pretty short, which is a normal thing for this kind of games
- No “skip scene” button
- The whole story is pretty predictable
- Sometimes characters behave way too defiantly

FMV games were always something that I loved to play from time to time. You probably know that feeling, when you are tired of your usual kind of games and then you just want to relax with something completely different, something that is not intense at all. If you do, then you can understand me here, because this kind of games perfectly suits the diversity.

Speaking of me, I guess I finished most of the popular well-known FMV games in the past and I am more than familiar with the genre. It’s important to understand that FMV games are not for everyone and you really have to put a story with characters and its rich plot in the first place, without thinking too much about the actual gameplay. They are all about relaxing and enjoying.

She Sees Red is probably one of my least favorite games in this genre. The main problem about this game is that it doesn’t bring anything new for the genre, it can’t surprise the player and together with a pretty predictable and shallow story, it is just not memorable at all.

Story

She Sees Red starts with a scene showing the player a guy killing a security guard in the nightclub’s utility room. At the very same moment, the club’s door opens and the owner appears accompanied by his bodyguards. Then we see a woman, a police detective, who came to the club because she was notified that there was a murder. They follow to the utility room and find a dead body of the security guard there, the one that has been shown in the first scene.

From this moment they have to retrace all the steps of the murderer to find him and understand what happened there.

Gameplay

The whole gameplay is represented as one short movie, so the player can sit back, relax and enjoy the story. From time to time, the player has to choose from one of the options and this choice affects the story. There are always two choices and usually one of them is risky while the other one leads to a safer approach.

During the retracing processes, the game switches between the detective alongside the owner and the murderer, showing us what really happened and the detective’s attempts to solve the case and find him. The developers did a great job of working on the characters, despite the fact that the whole game is pretty short. We can see an arrogant detective who came with a calm guy, who remains silent, an ugly club owner, who is represented as a typical Russian bandit, his charismatic bodyguards, and few more characters.

Considering the fact, that the game can’t provide the player anything but a good story with different endings, I must say that I was kinda disappointed with the story. I am not saying it’s bad, but for me, it was pretty predictable and I figured everything out very quickly, so there was no “wow” effect for me at all. But on the other hand, it’s kinda interesting to replay the game a few times, trying different choices and seeing other outcomes. One run can be completed in thirty minutes, so the player doesn’t have to spend much time replaying the scenes.

However, be prepared to watch the same scenes again and again, if you are interested to see every possible ending because there is no “skip scene” button which could be pretty handy here. It becomes pretty annoying to watch the same scenes over and over again, where the characters keep on saying the same thing until the player chooses a different option which can possibly trigger a new scene.

Graphics

All the scenes are very well filmed and the whole quality of the video is pretty amazing. I also enjoyed actors play and the fact that the game has a few greatly directed action scenes. The game doesn’t have a good variety of locations because all the events take place in one club.

Sound

The game has a professional voice dubbing and there are two audio tracks: Russian and English. Keep in mind that this is a Russian game, all the actors are professional artists and the game has to be experienced in the way it was originally designed, so I strongly recommend you to leave the Russian voice dubbing with preferred subtitles. English dubbing felt a little bit out of place for me and sounded completely different compared to the original voices.

Conclusion

She Sees Red is a one-time entertainment, the game that encourages the player to play it a few times in a row to piece all the details in one big picture. This game can not boast of having a rich story with unexpected twists, but it’s definitely worth your time if you love the games of this genre.

Enjoy!
