A beautiful little JRPG. It's clearly inspired by the great SNES classics like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, with some important quality of life improvements. You get to save whenever you want, and each combat has you restart with full health and mana - skills cost more and mana recharges automatically, making it more like a cooldown, which means you get to use the full breadth of tactical options at your disposal with no worries. There's also stats allocation and a simple class system to customize your characters a bit.

The pixel art is fantastic, and the story is all right for these sorts of things. It will not blow your mind but it's got some fresh story beats, mixing the classic high fantasy elves with vampires as villains in a floating islands setting. Difficulty is also pretty low but I played on Normal. In hindsight I probably would have done well even on a harder level, but I'm fine playing with a relatively relaxed pace.

Short version: if you love the old SNES JRPGs of yore and want something resembling the same flavour but that plays smoothly and with more modern conveniences, buy without question. This is going to give you a good 20-ish hours of fun and nostalgia for sure.

If you think cyborg ninjas who can slice anything, run vertically up a skyscraper, jump from one missile to another to go cut a helicopter, and debate the morality of war while fighting other cyborg ninjas to the death are cool, buy this game now.

If you don't think cyborg ninjas who can slice anything, run vertically up a skyscraper, jump from one missile to another to go cut a helicopter, and debate the morality of war while fighting other cyborg ninjas to the death are cool, I'm sorry, who hurt you?

(probably the cyborg ninjas I guess. They do that a lot)

As a shooter, High on Life is just kinda ok. It's fun enough but has very few weapons and their mechanics aren't always particularly satisfying. Mechanically it's just ok, without being boring. There's a few puzzles here and there that are solved by judicious use of the guns' secondary powers. The fights are pretty basic, I played at Normal difficulty and not only I managed to defeat at least one boss at my first attempt, the game felt like it got easier instead of harder as I went. Last level was a breeze, and last boss went down at my third attempt.

But really, what carries the game is the psychedelic aesthetic and the comedic writing, which is pretty funny if you enjoy Rick and Morty style humour. It's really just ok I guess. I got this into a Humble Choice and breezed through it in less than a week as I needed something easy and fun, which is exactly what it provided. Definitely would not have bought it on its own, let alone at full price. So take that as you will; if you're looking for hard challenges and can't stand humour that mixes ♥♥♥♥ jokes and nihilism then you may want to give this a pass.

I overall enjoyed Chorus, but just barely. I am a sucker for space shooters - grew up with X-Wing: Alliance and its ilk - and the combat gets my thumb up. It's exciting, tough without being impossible, and spiced up by the unusual addition of your pilot having essentially magic powers that she can use to even the odds even when vastly outnumbered. The game also must have taken a cue from Star Wars (and Return of the Jedi in particular) because it's chock full of high speed runs in narrow twisty tunnels and capital ships that you need to take down by flying inside and destroying their power reactor. I love that stuff, to those are the pros.

The cons are that this game could have been perfect if it had added some kind of rogue-like endless battle mode with increasingly hard hordes of enemies, and instead all it has is a story mode, which wouldn't even be such a big deal if the story wasn't so... ugh. Every voice actor sounds like they're constantly on the verge of an emotional breakdown as they deliver this ponderous tale of a woman who committed a pretty big war crime and has since defected from the cult she used to fight for to help those resisting it. And the tale is delivered via "memories", which are essentially in-game unskippable interactive cutscenes, which you have to go through again, and again, and again, for the whole damn campaign as well as most side quests. The story to me was just uninteresting, and its extremely dour tone also made it dull.

The game looks and sounds really cool; the various systems are all very distinct and provide a variety of unusual space environments. Really, the forced narrative was the only negative for me. Still, this is definitely worth a sale price if you like space fighting games (and feel confident about tackling one that has a bit more teeth to it).

TL;DR: a great game if you enjoy exploration and a good fantasy setting.

I got Dread Delusion while it was still in EA as part of a Souls-like Humble Bundle, which is funny, because this game is absolutely NOTHING like a Souls-like, except perhaps in the vibes of the lore. This game's combat is as shallow as a puddle; you swing stick at enemy, enemy dies, that's about it. Do NOT play this game for the combat, you'll be disappointed.

So what should you play it for? Mostly, for the well-crafted, unique, and incredibly atmospheric setting. This is a game about exploring open world maps and discovering all their little secrets - both the lore and character interactions and simple puzzles like hidden areas and treasures. Exploration is the bread and butter of Dread Delusion. The setting is fascinating and full of character, as it sees you travelling between several kingdoms (all various flavours of thoroughly screwed, to be fair), learning their history, and sometimes fixing their problems (or making them worse - depending on your perspective on things and how much you care).

It's an enjoyable game, sort of a hyper-condensed Morrowind with all mechanics distilled to their barebones essence. The aesthetic is intentionally rudimentary but full of character, and the writing is really good. If you look for frantic and challenging action, or deep character customisation, though, look elsewhere.

Extremely enjoyable puzzle game with a great aesthetic - it plays like a Paper Please that replaced the dystopian Soviet-like setting with a witchcore one. You are a herbalist whose customers will look for strange plants with unusual effects, and you have to gather them and then identify them with the help of your manual. More puzzle-solving is involved in figuring out the locations of new plants on the map, distilling new elixirs, and generally moving forward the plot involving witchcraft and some kind of demonic familiar summoned by a local practitioner.

I spent way too much time thinking this was set in some kind of whimsical fantasy land in which every town and river has strange and quaint names before realising the map shows literally just the Lake District in Cumbria, England.

An absolute gem; a fun, challenging pixel art bullet hell/RPG mix. Think a twin stick shooter bullet hell gameplay to explore a procedurally generated map made of individual "rooms" that you must clear of enemies before proceeding (Binding of Isaac style). As you explore more and more of the world, you unlock more towns and fast travel spots, find more bonuses, and harvest materials you can use to craft better equipment.

The gameplay is fun, the controls are tight, the art is super nice, the progression very satisfying and enjoyable. There's a plot about your typical sealed Big Bad, nothing particularly relevant but it works for what this is, which is a very enjoyable arcade-y experience. Only gripe I have is that some optional challenges and the final boss feel like spikes in difficulty compared to everything else.

Truly cute and extremely polished relaxing game. I'd call it a puzzle but there's not a lot to "puzzle" you; most objects barely pose any challenge at all. You just tinker with beautiful slightly retro devices and figure out how to piece them back together with a few changed parts, that is all. The pastel aesthetic and smooth yet detailed models are absolutely top notch; there is also some pretty art and story to introduce and tie together the various objects, though honestly the writing is pretty predictable. Bit of a pity as perhaps the best thing that could have improved this game was using the puzzles as a vehicle to tell a more interesting story. Still, as is, it's a very enjoyable experience that doesn't overstay its welcome. Think of it almost as a virtual toy.

A nice concept executed in an overall ok way. The game features a pretty random sci-fi premise used mainly to frame the core mechanic, of going back and forth in the timeline of one week before a deadly fire that kills all occupants of a British shared house. You get to slowly learn about the characters and their issues, and this helps you figure out how to edit the timeline to eventually save them.

I think the game could have done more with the premise. The timeline is influenced just by straight up changing the decisions of the characters at the press of a button (not, for example, changing environmental factors to influence them), and the correct answer is almost always to go for the "better" behaviour which then coincidentally also leads to the characters being able to spot the fire and run away before dying. It's not particularly complex in any sense, and really, it's mostly about discovering a story than solving some kind of puzzle. That said, it's still an interesting concept at least, and if you like narrative games it'll probably be your cup of tea.

The game is stupidly buggy. I played it on two different computers, with different OS. On the first one, it doesn't save, so it's unplayable. On the second, it doesn't play audio during cutscenes or from mission messages... and it ALSO doesn't save. I tried some fixes suggested on the internet and nothing worked. So even though the gameplay itself looks fun enough... from the tutorial section which I managed to play... the thing is so broken I literally can't play it.
