For me the game was definitely a disappointment, it feels like a letdown after The Hex.

Ill admit, the first act of the game is awesome, has a cool atmosphere, but from that point onward it just gets worse and worse, In act 2 the game becomes CCG, and while that is definitely cool, it just doesn't feel like a useful feature in a part of the game that lasts under 4 hours. But nothing can prepare you for the 3rd act, it is very boring and the aesthetic the game goes for at that point is very ugly

I think Its worth it to get the game on sale if only for the beginning that is awesome.

For being 17 years old the game plays surprisingly well, there was pretty much no need to fiddle with the config files or anything similar to get the game to a playable state. Main issue I found was not being to turn while flying, but that issue is caused by high fps and thus is solvable (I didn't try to fix it because it didn't really bother me, since I ended up moving with my mouse anyways).

Otherwise its a pretty solid 2004 game. There are some balancing issues, it gets kinda repetitive after a while, but it still ends up being fun overall.

I really enjoy the spells terraforming the ground after they get casted, it creates some cool emergent gameplay when you can prevent enemies from moving or you can protect your units from being hit.

Biggest gameplay issue for me is the huge spike in difficulty that happens halfway through the game (I didn't finish the game yet, but I'm fairly certain I'm in the middle) where the enemies can kill you very quickly, but I kinda feel like that's to be expected from games of that era.
