I want to preface this by saying i only play in VR, i have played a tiny bit outside VR and it wasn't as fun.

Elite: Dangerous is not a game for everyone, this is VERY important to consider before buying. If you want to be a pilot among millions, a speck of dust just making a living, this is a game for you. Be it space mining, exploration, combat and many others, you are not the main character.
I love this style of gameplay, personally i am playing as a space miner (at the time of writing) and i love to put on some music or a podcast and just travel along asteroid rings mining for valuable minerals. And flying a huge haul, being intercepted by pirates and returning to the station and cashing in said haul, is an adrenaline spike like no other.

Look up some videos of gameplay, playstyles and such before buying. Also get a joystick, way better than a keyboard.
