You will enjoy the game this way but you will soon encounter Credi Card Warriors/ Visa Champions. [/quote]

I think this is the biggest problem with the game.. they should never have introduced a cash shop and simply made it subscription based.

The ability for individuals to drop large sums of money to get a competitive advantage is what makes it feel like it's pay to win.

If I pay a monthly subscription, I expect the game to be balanced around equal effort, not who sells the most apex/cash shop items.

I had no problem with the grind, but when you add in the RNG (AA has one of the toughest rng sets I've played.. it really is a luck grind), the fact that your items can be destroyed when upgrading (regrade charms reduce this and at higher levels, they are required to progress without spending a fortune) and then the ability for people to simply sell apex and outright buy high end items. It makes the game feel pay to win.. not just pay to progress faster.

The worst part is that as a subscriber.. Your already paying a sub, then you still feel like the game is pay to win at endgame.

None of these issues will affect you heavily as a you are leveling, so its a fun game up until endgame, where you realize its almost impossible to progress without subscribing and swiping your visa. That is the double dipping that really annoyed me about their cash shop model.

In it's current state - this DLC mod is very buggy and lacking in content.

Machine Specs: i5 OC @ 4.4 Ghz - Nvidia 660 - 16gb 2400 Mhz
FPS (High Settings): 60+
Hours played do not accumulate to DLC - they are in the main M&B:Warband game - I have about 36 hours ingame with the mod at the time of this writing.

Summary
The number of bugs and lack of content as compared to vanilla warband makes this come up empty. The concept is great.. the map is huge, and the story isn't that bad - but the execution is terrible.

UI Bugs:
There are numerous bugs related to button clicks, dialogues, etc... that make the game hard to enjoy. I've found myself ALT-F4'ing out several times to reload the game just to fix these UI bugs. You will likely find yourself stuck at screens where you cannot interact with the game (even the main character generation screen hangs on the continue button at times..)

Alot of people have noted performance problems - however, I haven't really seen that.. The game does allocate 2gb of ram - so ensure you have atleast enough to spare 2gb + run your os, etc.. It shouldn't be an issue except on low end machines.

The larger map stutters at times for me ingame - its annoying, and doesnt appear to be a CPU/GPU bottle neck - just something in the background re-pathing/not moving your boat. This has the smell of inexperienced programming/concurrency issues.

AI Bugs:
In most battles, the enemy AI just stands there throwing rocks at you, while you ride through and destroy them.. It's so glaringly obvious that the developers should be ashamed for releaseing it in this state.

Dialogue Bugs:
This is the most forgivable issues, but it still hurts gameplay & immersion in a mod that prides itself on 'realism' - It's likely that you will find yourself stuck when conversing with the occasional NPC - unable to cancel out of the menu or reset it due to some restriction, check, etc.. I've experienced this on several of the side quests. Its annoying as you have to exit the game, google to figure out what your missing, then re-enter and attempt to complete the dialogue.

Content:
This game has far less content in regards to weapons, armor, horses, etc.. The armor choices are very basic and while I understand this may have been a choice to improve realism.. would it have really hurt to add more than five types of armor and six weapon choices? In the very least.. make various types of chainmail, splint mail, etc.. (No.. adding the word 'strong' or 'old' to the same armor does not make it unique..)

Then we get to the issue that the world is much larger than Warband.. but it's empty for the most part! Where are the roving bands of robbers, various types of evil gray mobs to slay? A few roving bands of thieves doesn't add much to gameplay. This mod needs variety in the non-empire npc's!

Troop tree's.. This has been dummied down - I assume in the name of realism? Come on, be creative.. you can have realism and content in the same product!

Overall.. I have enjoyed the previous content from TaleWorlds and even the Brytenwalda mod.. but this DLC reeks of rushed, inexperienced development. It has done nothing more than hurt the reputation of an otherwise solid indie developer.

The only saving grace is that the developers are very good about fixing past mistakes, so it is likely they will continue to clean this up.

This is World of Tanks in a space setting.

It has several different map settings and ship types and seems to suffer from the same positives and flaws as World Of Tanks.

There's really nothing negative that I can say about this game.. It is a must have for grand strategy players. It offers a double major in historical relationships, a minor in military strategy and one of the most indepth games I have played in the last twenty years.

An absolute masterpiece in strategy gaming.

The concept is interesting.. but the fatal flaw of this game is that it relies on 6+ other players to actually play the game correctly.

Thus, most games are filled with griefers that do not roleplay and simply ruin the game. The fact that each game takes thirty minutes to complete and is often ruined within the first five minutes doesn't make for much fun.

Another example of a great concept on paper, but in reality - the game is ruined by the players themselves.

Overall
Comparing it to War Inc and other F2P shooters - it's at the bottom of the list.

Details
This game hasn't offered anything amazing.. It does have killing blows, which are cool - but completely useless in a FPS as they leave you vulnerable. The number of times that this is useful is so slim, it adds little to the game.

The UI is terrible.. I'm hoping this is due to it being Early Access - but they really need to clean this part up. It's difficult to find things and feels like alot of boxes overlayed onto one another.

The cover system is quirky... sometimes it works, other times it doesn't - but as a new player, it wasn't as polished as in other f2p shooters.

All of this could get worked out before this game goes live.. but right now, its not that fun.

This was by far one of the better games of the series..

It's a fun open-world experience, which distances itself from the AC Series a bit - but is still close enough to have the familiar jumping, backstabbing, acrobatics of the series.

Compared to the previous installment.. it is far more optomized for the PC and really didn't feel like a console port at all.

Overall, it's a great game with an interesting story that can get a bit repetitive towards the end. (Not everyone likes fishing and crafting.. not sure it really has that big of a place in this style game)

Thankfully, you can avoid alot of the crafting and just play the action - but it's there as some side frill if you want to enjoy it.

This game gets annoying very quickly.. It's a terrible run & gun shooter. If you enjoy playing hide & seek - maybe you'll like this one.

My biggest complaints:

(1) It doesn't require alot of twitch skill - most players just corner camp.
(2) The game attempts to 'assist' with positioning/cover - this gets annoying as its easy to mess that up versus simply aiming yourself. I don't need aim assist.. I can use cover effectively without an extra animation hindering me.
(3) The cover system encourages slow, camping gameplay - most of your deaths occur from the side/back from a guy hiding in the shadows.
(4) The game renders lines to nearby players - thats fine - except it's annoying graphics on the screen. I'm situationally aware , I really don't need a big green line showing me where my squad mates are.

If you enjoy sniping, then you may enjoy this game. If you enjoy the rush of run & gun, twitch gaming - you'll get annoyed from being shot in the from 2ft away by shotguns every few seconds. The game doesn't feel challenging - it feels like hide & seek.

This is one of the rare gems that I have seen in the latest trend of Voxel game engines. If it continues in it's current direction, it will be one of the best games that I have played in the last 20 years.

Machine Specs: i5 OC @ 4.4 Ghz - Nvidia 660 - 16gb 2400 Mhz
FPS (High Settings): 60+

Summary

The game is in an alpha - so the story line is not complete. There is about 20 hours of playable story content, and what I have seen is extremely interesting. They have the potential to weave a great story out of this game and are headed in the right direction.

It is a hybrid of a FPS/BF1942 (Yes, the old one) land, sea, air combat - mixed into the crafty style of minecraft, splashed with colony/base management & building.

The game uses a Voxel engine, written in Unity, and while I am not always a fan of Unity 3D based engines (Mainly due to it having such a low barrier to entry - so you get alot of shotty development teams using it), but this game is written so that you would think it's using CryEngine or some custom engine. It has no signs of Unity slowness.

There is a huge technology / crafting tree.. Its not perfectly balanced, but it is so engrossing, that I think they will have no trouble balancing it. The crafting works well.. the UI is intuitive and makes it a good experience.

They have a unique system for 'scanning' for minerals - which makes finding materials much easier and helps with base/colony planning. A great idea.. and it also looks amazing.

There is a great system for crafting your own items/weapons/aircraft/boats/cars - the system is easy to use, reminds me a bit of Google Sketchup, except with voxels - and is fairly realistic in material usage, weight, and physics (IE.. heavy planes don't fly)
They allow you to import models from other users in ISO format - which is a great feature if you are lazy like me and really don't wan to spend hours painting and building a really cool ship. All of the importing is integrated using Steam Workshop - so its' very seamless.. It reminds me of the model importing from Spore.

The multiplayer is still immature - most servers are lowly populated - but it is an Alpha game, so I suspect that will change in the future. It has a bit of the DayZ appeal in multiplayer, so I think this part will come around as game development progresses. It offers Adventure, Surival, and Coop modes - but there is no Coop for Story mode.

Game Development

The game does not feel like an Alpha at all.. The game is fairly stable. I have seen a few crashes due to array indexing issues, but for the most part, its not bad.

The developers have pushed content on a regular basis and seem to be a very worthy team capable of completing this project. I have no fears that my cash used on this project will yield a solid product.

This is one of the few Early Access projects that I have jumped on where I feel like I immediately got a return on my investment. There is a playable demo available at their main site too.. It would be nice if they would add it to steam and maintain it, but that may not be easily done.

Graphics Engine

The game uses Unity - but the graphics are quite nice. I've done a bit of indie work with Unity 3D and until I read about it on the forums, I couldn't tell it was a Unity based game. The only real visual hint is that the frill is batched, which shows up in open plains areas.

The terrain blending is done to perfection.. mineral types make sense, the textures look realistic to the terrain (IE.. no gold rock sticking up in the middle of the terrain). The forests are lush and all of the models are well done. The animations are 'ok' - though they could use a bit of work, but it is an Alpha, so no worries on that getting cleaned up.

On my system, it runs very smoothly - renders distant terrain without issue and feels very well optomized. It is processor intensive and uses a large amount of RAM (4gb after playing a while) - so if you have a system with less than 8gb - you will likely see some slowness loading the areas (They make heavy use of caching..)

The minimum system specs are really low.. I don't see how you could have a fun play experience with just those specs.

Game Play

The gameplay is fun.. even the crafting isn't bad (I'm not a fan of minecraft/free form building). It has several game modes, Adventure, Story, and Free Build (unlimited resources) - so it caters to a variety of play styles.

I see alot of potential in the story - if they can pull it off.. Multi-content base battles.. large battleships (all destructible), very similar to the combat of BF 1942 or PlanetFall. The best part is that it is voxel base, so the entire world is destructible/buildable.

The story starts off very slow.. I had this game in my library a few times.. thought it was just another voxel garbage game - so I didn't give it much of a chance. If you play the story, give it atleast two hours as it can be very overwhelming at first and will easily turn you away.

However, consider the story to be more of a tutorial on the interface. It gets better after you get into the vehicle/guns part and actually turns into an intrigueing story of alien races/who did it/why are we here..

This game is lightyears ahead of Landmark - the only other engine I've seen come close to doing what it does.

Overall.. this is one of the best games I've seen in 2014 and has so much potential and seems to be backed by the developers who can pull it off.

If you understand that the game is an alpha and that your story will most likely be spoiled by playing early (before it is complete) then this a definate buy for your library.

However, I would recommend waiting on the story to be complete as my only disappointment in this game was reaching the point in the story where it was incomplete (I really wanted to play on.. it was addicting, fun and a great experience)
