Tried it not expecting anything, and got an autistically accurate spaceship sim with complex mechanics, all in a relatively cheap and unassuming package. I'd recommend this game if you're interested in actual spaceship physics or enjoyed The Expanse, even if this game was pricier than just $10.

This is one of those games that just won't be a game I complete. I am 5 playthroughs in and still discovering new things, and the mod support doesn't disappoint by any means. All the characters are lifelike, especially with the Phantom Liberty expansion. The gunplay and buildmaking allows for various playstyles, with my personal favorite being a heavy gunner with gorilla arms.

Performance is phenomenal for such a game, ESPECIALLY on Linux. On just my integrated hardware attached I was able to run a mix of high and ultra settings without upscaling! You shouldn't have an issue with the game unless your hardware is older than the average Snapchat userbase.

If you want a singleplayer masterpiece of a game, and this is coming from someone who loved AC Odyssey and Valhalla for their stories, this is the game for you.

Also, never visit Hanako at Embers. Night City calls, Samurai.

As of this point in the game I do not recommend the game on a technical basis.

Top on my list of issues is technical debt. Arrowhead has a lot of it, and the performance has only gotten worse over time. I am already forced to run lower quality despite running better hardware than the Steamdeck, which the Steamdeck presently can't run the game well anyway. Arrowhead, through one way or another, somehow managed to scuff performance badly enough that my friends running dedicated hardware like 3080s can hardly run the game at more than 20 FPS. I can't even change graphics settings because the entire game just fails to render despite standard and deep troubleshooting like clearing shader caches and all. This was across both Windows AND Linux.

That point alone, is why I cannot recommend the game to new buyers. The gameplay loop is brilliant, I have hundreds of hours in this game and I love it, but THEY MASSACRED MY BOY. I will reinstall when they fix the damn thing, but for now? Look the other way.

Update: Apparently going into the files and straight up deleting the entire directory fixes the problem, but this goes without saying, users shouldn't have to do such a thing to access their purchase. I still do not recommend it right now.

I have mixed feelings on this game as someone that usually sticks with racing sims with controller. I like long trips, I like driving, I like this game, but it doesn't have the best controller support, I rather play with mouse steering. VR doesn't work on Linux under Proton. Otherwise, absolutely great game, great relaxer, can mod it to your heart's content and even add your own stations (though might take a personal media server for your own playlist)

Early Access Review
I'm extremely conflicted with this game, on the upside the gameplay is genuinely fun, the combat did not disappoint at all. Everything is moldable by you, the player. The sound design and environmental storytelling is 1:1 with bigger dev teams. However, I can't recommend it RIGHT NOW if you have a low-end PC. I was barely able to maintain 18 FPS on my setup, which was disappointing since I could play Forza Horizon 6 day 1 on medium graphics. If you can, buy this game just to keep the small 13 man dev team open and help them optimize it for us poors.

If you have a low end PC, or are a player of literally any other racing game like Forza or NFS, stay away. This game not only has horrible performance paired with suboptimal graphics, but also has a shallow story, too much/annoying dialogue, and generally gets boring extremely quickly. I have already requested a refund, if I want anything like this I'll go play Forza.

Coming from Xbox version, modding is definitely the best feature. Wish there was cross saving, but the game's one of the best I've played. Similar cult-community to Helldivers. Rock and Stone!
